I have a follower on Tumblr I would much rather not have. Can I make them unfollow me somehow on my end? From what I can see "blocking" them does pretty much nothing. I just dont want to show up on their dash anymore. Any way or clever workarounds so that I can make that happen?
I fried my clothes in a dryer at the laundromat that was way, way too hot. Besides everything being shrunken, some of the paint stuff from screenprinted T-shirts seems to have melted a little and everything stinks, almost like melted plastic. Is this dangerous? Am I inhaling toxic fumes from my sheets and might I be dead by morning?

Is there a way to post stand-alone websites to the New Google Reader? I used to do it with a tool in my bookmarks toolbar called "Note in Reader", but that no longer works. I simply don't see how to do it. I really like to keep a web-file of my favorite articles. Can I still do it in Google Reader? I hate to go to an alternate source to create a webfile, but if you have a suggestion, and I could consider that too, much as I hate to.

I'm posting this as anonymous as I have some friends and family who read this site, and they don't know we're this serious yet. My girlfriend and I are talking about getting married this summer if we can afford it and afford living together. We're looking at possibly Saint Malo off of Highway 7, Panorama Point or doing something in Rocky Mountain National Park. We're leaning more towards a summer wedding outdoors, June or July. Saint Malo is great, but expensive for what we want ($1000 for a few hours). Panorama Point in Golden Gate State park is more feasible. We're both really practical so we want our friends and family there but not at significant cost or debt. Other then Rocky Mountain National Park or Golden Gate State park, what are some good locations in Colorado for an outdoor wedding? In terms of cost, food for < 30 guests, location, photographer etc... what should we plan to spend? We're talking about doing it on a weekday.

Searching for a narrative I heard on the radio years ago (sometime between 1997 and 2007, I think). It was basically a father's letter to his unborn child, whom he lost in a miscarriage. At one point in the narration, I believe he refered to his baby - or simply the embryo's size - as a grain of rice. I think I may have heard it on NPR... I know this is terribly vague, but since my recent miscarriage, I have been desperate to hear/read it again. Does this ring a bell with anyone? If so, can someone tell me where I can access it - or at least offer me more specific search terms?

Do any MeFis have any tips/experience as to installing accent lighting in trees? We have a tall and lovely pecan tree in our backyard, and would like to install lights shining up into the canopy both to highlight the tree (an effect that I've always loved) and to provide soft lighting for our yard. I'm interesting in hearing about any tips/warnings from those who've done the same. The tree is a Pecan, about 50 years old, ~60 feet tall, diameter ~ 2 1/2 feet. We'd be using a electrician to add the circuit.

I was recently diagnosed with a urethral diverticulum which bulges through my anterior vaginal wall. I hadn't noticed it at all until I went to a nurse for bacterial vaginosis, and she referred me to a gynecologist for what she thought was a cyst. The urogynecologist I met with sent me to get an MRI and suggested surgery to remove the pouch, since it is periodically filling with fluid and could cause complications (recurrent UTIs, &c.) if not treated. Breakup after two years, why does it hurt so much that he started a new relationship when he said that's not what he wanted. Short version of the breakup: I am six years older, my ex is 22. I have known his family for ten years, best friends with his cousin and that's how we connected in the beginning. We had so much in common as far sports, out door activities, school, silly drinking times and mostly the family connection. We did not say we loved each other until six months into the relationship and it grew from there. [more inside]

I own a lot of shares in a company that has done very well on the market recently. So well in fact that if I sold it all now, I could divide the proceeds equally between my two kids and set them both up for college — something my parents couldn't do for me. However, my oldest child won't be ready for college for another 12 years. Is there any way to convert the stock shares into something less volatile than the market, without incurring capital gains tax? My kids both have 529 funds and I'd love to be able to move the stock there but I want to avoid the IRS as much as possible. Yes, I am naive and ignorant of the finer workings of finance, so please be gentle.

I'm a brand new iPhone customer. Just 2 weeks ago I purchased my first iPhone from AT&T. I love the phone. But AT&T is very expensive (the cheapest plan is ~ $92 a month when taxes are included). I'm planning to use mostly data on my phone, so I think Sprint will be a better deal -- cheaper plan plus unlimited data. It would save me about $20 in the long run. I know that I wouldn't even use the full 200MB each month...but even with that taken into account, Sprint's deal is still cheaper. I have 2 weeks to return the AT&T phone without paying the termination fee. My question is, should I stick with AT&T and continue to pay almost $100 for a measly 200MB a month, even though their network is better? Or should I pay less for unlimited data on Sprint, even though they supposedly have a slow network? [more inside]

Looking for the name of a carnival ride. I'm looking for more information on a carnival ride I went on about 10 years ago. It was set on temporarily on the boardwalk near the beach, I think Virginia beach. It had round, two-person cars, open in the front with a lap bar. The cars were similar to this ride. The motion, instead of going around in a circle, went in more of a vertical oval shape (the cars went up and down, and somewhat front to back). The cars moved past each other in a "scrambler" type motion, so it looked like they were going to hit each other. The cars would swoop down, rocking back and forth but not quite going upside down. I've never seen a video of this ride anywhere. Has anyone?

I’d like examples with of a readable calibre, please. To give you something to go by, I enjoyed Gregory Maguire’s Wicked, but found Anne Rice’s The Witching Hour horribly bloated.

A random number of the boxes have what appears to be a period directly underneath it. OK, I know this is the perennial AskMe "My cat does this crazy thing" question, and that the answer will be the eternal "because cats are weird", but I want to find out if anyone else's cat does this. When my spouse is laughing loudly, for instance (but not exclusively) in response to being tickled, my cat will launch himself at him and attempt to bite him (fortunately, it's always been through clothes). This has happened three times. It was not a playful bite, but rather a full-on chomp. The cat is very sweet at all other times, if occasionally a bit jumpy. Has anyone else seen this behavior, or have any idea what's going on, or how to make the cat less reactive to loud laughter?

It had something to do with an old house, and there was a giant, and a magic gemstone of some kind -- I think it was an opal.

I am considering taking a trip to NOLA in December... however, in looking at hostel listings, I realized that I do not know what is a good location to book a hostel. This is because I am not familiar with the city and I am not certain where the interesting parts are located. I also do not know much about the transit options available for accessing different places. It seems there are some trolley lines, but again, without knowledge of where I want to go, I don't know if they will be helpful or not. I do not care about hitting up every one of the top-ten tourist sites. To be cliche, I am more interested in experiencing the actual New Orleans rather than the tourist version of the city. I'm looking for a UK site that I saw a while back and daftly appear not to have noted down the name. Basically, it was a gift of the month club: you bought someone a subscription, and each month it sent them something. How do I either learn to love animals or make my dislike of them a non-issue? Last month on AskMe, somebody asked how to filter out creeps on OkCupid. I realized that I displayed some of the creepy behaviors, but most of them (insecurity, neediness, etc) are things I'm aware of and actively, consciously dealing with. However, one line that came up was a dislike of dogs and domestic animals. I've never liked animals. I never had pets growing up, so I don't know how to deal with them. I cross the street when I see a dog coming, and even my friends' cats will scratch and attack me. I'm certainly not as vehement about it in real life as I am on MeFi, but anyone who knows me for any length of time will realize that I dislike animals. This, combined with my other issues, will probably be a serious problem. How do I mitigate or change my dislike and fear of animals? Or make it a non-issue? I live in an apartment, so buying a dog would not work.

I have the vaguest of memories of a TV movie I may have seen around the mid-80s, possibly on public television. Could have been British, or at least set in the UK. It was somewhat creepy, at least it was to young me at the time. It was about a family wherein one of the boys had magic powers. My only real memory is a shot of this boy putting his hands into a kitchen counter as if the kitchen counter were soft clay or a portal to another dimension, drawing some material out of it, and making a little sculpture of an animal (lion?) Young me found that special effect surprisingly unnerving. I thought it might be a WonderWorks production but none of the titles seem to match. Ring any bells for anyone?

I've been playing electric bass guitar in bands continuously for about 25 years or so. The last 20 years I've been using a pick exclusively, and for most of that time, while playing, I've suffered bad pain in my picking hand - specifically around the base of my thumb and in between the thumb and index finger. It's kind of like a cramp that comes on about 5 minutes after I start playing, and can in extreme isntances result in me not being able to hold onto the pick. The pain subsides after I stop playing, but it's a serious hinderance to playing well! I'm in a punk band, so lots of speed picking. I've tried hand and arm exercises, stretching, upping my potassium intake (bananas and coconut water), repositioning the bass, and taking Ibuprofin before playing and none of it seems to work reliably. Is this something I am just have to live with?

Several people I know here in Chicago, including myself, have witnessed very small isolated rain showers. They are usually no more than 6 feet in diameter, clearly not coming from a building, no clouds in the sky. One of saw this happen in a wide open intersection, one in an open quad area and one on a sidewalk. These showers tend to last anywhere from 40 seconds to 2 minutes and seem to be coming from absolutely nowhere. They are clearly unusual enough that people stop, stare, comment and try to locate it's source. Is this a naturally occurring phenomenon? Is there a name for it? Where is that rain coming from?

I am a single guy in my 20s and I haven't taken any kind of trip or vacation for myself in years. Now I have some extra money and things are starting to slow down (seasonally) at work. The place would have to be close enough to New York that I can return within about 4 or 5 days and not spend a huge amount of time travelling. I would have to be able to get around without a car as I don't drive. I would take the trip in November or December and it will be cold unless it is Florida or something, so it should be a place where there is something interesting culturally. For medical reasons I can't ski. I do like going to art museums, so DC/Boston/Philadelphia are easy and obvious, but this seems a tad boring and maybe there are other good options. I could spend up to $1500 or maybe $2000. Thanks in advance.
My VOIP phone requires a wired ethernet connection. But after an office redesign, my VOIP phone is now far enough away from the router than an ethernet cable isn't an option. Is there any way to get the VOIP phone (LinksysIP phone SPA 942) connected to my router via wifi? Some way to make it seem like it's on ethernet (like a wireless ethernet adapter or something)?

Speaking of cast-iron skillets, I have two, and they worked brilliantly on a gas stove. But now that I have a flat-topped glass stove, they work less well because they're not perfectly flat. One is a bit convexly rounded on the outside, so some of it gets hotter than the rest; the other is concave on the outer bottom and sort of mounded on the inner bottom, so that oil pools around the edges, around the mound, if you can picture that. Both pans work great for baking stuff like cornbread, but not so good for steaks or such. So I've got two pans I love but now understand why I could buy them cheap at thrift shops. Question: Is there any way to make the bottoms of these pans perfectly flat again so they'll cook well?

My Google-fu is failing me. Back in probably the early 90's, there was a Spike & Mike's Animation Festival. One of the animated shorts was this one cartoon about the adventures of a kid with a bunch of clowns, except the clowns all had machine guns. They invade a castle or something and ride up in an elevator, and this quintessential elevator music song plays (for those of you that watch the tv show Castle, that same song (I think) was in the last episode when they were in an elevator, which triggered this memory). Anyway, what was the name of that cartoon?

A player's move is either to swap the numbers showing on his own two hands, or to hit the other player's hand with his own and thereby add to the count on that hand. The rest I'm fuzzy on. Is this familiar? What's it called and where can I find a description of it?

This month I wanted to skip my withdrawal bleeding so I started another strip without the stop/placebo week. Should/could I just take a stop-week now, have a withdrawal bleeding, and hope the headache goes away? (and start with a new strip next week?) Should I wait it out? Any experiences?

There are "novels" and then there are "books". I want some "books" to read that are creepy and fast-paced and, preferably, modern. These "books" I speak of are generally the "pocket"-sized ones, about 8 by 4 inches and thick and cheap and pulpy and gripping. I'm thinking of stuff by authors like Jeff Long (Year Zero, The Descent), Scott Smith (The Ruins), Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, even Matthew Reilly to an extent. [more inside]
Recommend me a video camera to use capturing sports action. I'm looking for a USB camera for use outside that can send live capture to a Win7 machine. It should have a wide auto-focus, software to instantly review the feed. I've reviewed previous Mefi posts, and can't decide whether a web cam, stand-alone Hd camcorder, or something like a Flip or helmet cam would be suitable. Right now the Contour or GoPro are considerations, but I'm unsure of the software side. Price is not really important, but I dont' want to spend $500.

My 10 yr old daughter loves arts. She likes to do all kinds of crafts. She also like to draw and paint. She has been taking drawing lessons. But the problem is that she doesn't like her drawing teacher. She told me that she does not want to spend time learning sketching, drawing still life. She found trying to draw people very frustrating. She said that she wants to just learn painting. She enjoys playing with colors and patterns. So I decide to look around for more suitable teachers. But without much knowledge of on this subject myself, I want to know if there are teachers who would teach kids painting without trying to build basic drawing skills. How to talk to art teachers to see if they can work well with my daughter. Will a better teach be able to motivate her into practicing drawing with less frustration? Thanks

Why are they doing this? I feel like the ants are littering on my patio. If it helps I live in north Dallas. Thank you!
