Like Avett's I and Love and You?

I love listening to the Avett Brothers "I and Love and You" album for the piano lead track. What other folk/alt country/indie songs or albums would I like? Specifically looking for songs with piano leads in those categories.

I was going to say The Head and the Heart. But also, Langhorne Slim – Worries

Best answer: Piggybacking on the "old Elton John" suggestion: the album Tumbleweed Connection especially hits that piano-meets-Americana feel.

Any number of mellower tunes by The Band could probably fit, too.

Best answer: Think you might like the Exile Vilify by the National. Pianoy.

the Avett Brothers remind me a lot of Brad Barr. (the song i linked to isn't piano-y but i think you might like it.)

Here are some of my favorites that come to mind right away (all feature piano):

- Laura Cantrell - "Bees" from Humming by the Flowered Vine (goes to her official site which offers a free, full song mp3 -- I highly recommend downloading it!)

- A.A. Bondy - "On the Moon" from When the Devil's Loose (mp3 page at Amazon)

- Richard Buckner - "Before" from Meadow (track 5 -- goes to official album page at Merge Records)

- Hem - "When I Was Drinking" from Rabbit Songs (mp3 page at Amazon)

- Hem - "Pacific Street" also from Eveningland (mp3 page at Amazon)

- Gabriel Mann - "This Feeling" from Tall Buildings (track 11 -- goes to album page at CD Baby)

If you're not familiar with Hem, I strongly recommend checking out the band's albums Rabbit Songs, Funnel Cloud, and Eveningland (BTW, all these Hem links go to Amazon mp3 pages since there are sound samples, but if buying, I'd seek out the CDs or lossless song files for the highest quality audio; the level and range of their orchestration IMO don't translate too well with audio compression).
