Strange device!

Asheville, NC. What was this thing I saw downtown?

While in Asheville, NC this weekend, I saw what looked to be an interesting sculpture/device, but I didn't have time to inspect it thoroughly or to take a picture. It was on the sidewalk downtown on Battery Park Ave between World Coffee Cafe and Chai Pani. It's what looks like an old metal box about 3 feet high topped with a verdigrised sculpture of a woman arching her back against a large ring, much like a ship's figurehead.

At first glance, it just looks like an interesting sculpture (of which there are many in Asheville), but upon closer inspection, the box has what appeared to be several indicator lights. One said, "Bluetooth Active". Another says, "Printer Active". The labels for the other indicators seemed to be worn away. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Do pictures exist online? I'd love to know what this thing is!

Best answer: Yep. It's a wi-fi hotspot, but I'm not sure if it's one of MAIN's.

(Hope you enjoyed Moogfest.)

(And it was remiss of me not to mention that Vadim Bora, a huge presence in Asheville's artistic community, died at the start of the year.)
