How do you write a statement of confidence for the Managing Director of a company, as an employee?

I need to know how to write a statement of confidence for my boss. I've never seen one, I don't know what they look like. I don't know what sort of language is appropriate, or in fact if such a thing even has a particular name and a structure. This is not a legal document, but it may be read out loud or disseminated to stakeholders, so it needs to be professional.

Nothing emotive, or defensive: We simply wish to provide a list of facts and events that explain why we, as his staff and co-directors, place our confidence in the management of the company with him.

When and how is this done in the business world? If this a thing that happens at all regularly? Have you encountered a similar situation?

Honestly, any experiences, either with the "statement" itself or a similar situation would be welcomed.

I would look at this the same way that you look at writing a reference letter. Ask him which of his capabilities he would like to be highlighted. Brainstorm a list of specific examples where his results have shown those capabilities. Write a recommendation citing those results. Make everything measurable -- he didn't increase productivity; he reduced operating costs 20% while spearheading growth of 10%.

Don't write platitudes. Write facts.
