Where can I locally get a big box of full size Snickers (that doesn't require a membership) before Hallowe'en?

Where can I purchase a 48-count box of individually-wrapped full-size Snickers in the DC/Maryland area before Hallowe'en? I know Costco and probably Sams Club carry them, but I don't currently have a membership and don't want to pay a $50 membership just for the privilege of buying a $40 box of candy.

If you also have suggestions for internet-based candy wholesale, that might be useful to remember next year, but for right now, I don't have time enough to order online, so a local DC metro-area or I-270 corridor place would be much preferred. Thanks!

Amazon has them.

Amazon has them with 1 day shipping.

Best answer: Here are two ideas from Lifehacker.

Specifically, Amazon has these 24-count boxes, which you ought to be able to get by tomorrow for a little extra money, and by Saturday for free.

Response by poster: massysett: I actually ordered a box from Amazon, but their 48-count box was delivered — last night — as a 24-count box of 2-packs, which is less than useful for my purpose: giving individual bars to 40-50 trick-or-treaters. Hence the mad rush for a local source.

Best answer: Use a Sam's Club one day pass? You'll have to pay an extra 10%, but it works in a pinch.

Best answer: Go to a local, independent drugstore (like Walgreens, but not Walgreens) and see if you can work out a deal with the store owner on a box. You'll pay more than if you bought them online wholesale, but less than buying per-bar retail. (And I say local because a place like Walgreens is going to have a whole chain-of-command thing and won't be able to sell you a box at a reduced price.)

Dunnno if this deal will fly in store, there, but CVS has 6 for $5.49.

Response by poster: brainmouse: Those are two-packs of the smaller bars. Not quite what I'm looking for, but thanks.

artychoke and Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug: I didn't know about the one day pass. Not thrilled about the 10% surcharge, but that could prove useful if there isn't another solution. Thanks!

Response by poster: phunniemee: Ooh, good idea. We just had a tiny drug store open right near our house too. Might be so tiny that they may not have an extra box of Snickers in the back, but worth a try.

BJ's usually offers a 15 day free trial. You could sign up, buy the candy, and never go back. BTW, full sized Snickers? I want to trick or treat at your house!

do you have Dollar General or the like in your area? Our local dollar store lots of times has candy bars for .50 or .75 cents a piece. that would be equivalent to your sam's club + 10% price probably.

last time i needed a box but didn't want to drive 100 miles to Sam's, i used phunniemee's idea and hit up a local convenience store and asked them to order me one. It was much more expensive though, then sam's. About 12 dollars more per box. So if you don't have a contact at a small store, sam's plus surcharge maybe the way to go. Worth it to me, since my gas and time were much more than that.

Pardon my stupidity, but if you're willing to pay $40 for 48 bars, why not just buy individual full size bars?

Seconding the "trial membership." We used to do that every year for our Christmas party. (You will be on their mailing list forever though...)

Why don't you just ask a friend with a Costco/Sam's Club membership if they'd help you pick some up/go on a quick shopping trip with you?

I don't have a Costco membership but whenever I need something I just find a friend. I'd imagine that at least a few people you know would have them. If not, then never mind.

I've heard costco will let anyone shop - you just pay an additional 5%.

Costco will refund your membership fee if you change your mind. So just sign up for the membership, get what you need, and ask for your $50 back--according to their website, they'll give it to you.

Best answer: I buy alot of candy bars from BJ's and often (when they are on sale) the cost of 6 packs from Walmart is the same price per bar as the 48 packs from BJs. Have you priced them out at your local department store?

Response by poster: domino: You're right — maybe I'm making a bad assumption that the bulk packs will be significantly cheaper than a discount general store. Worth checking.

peep: $40 was just a guess. I see bars for $1.25 at some stores, so for 48, that would be $60, and $40 would be a good discount. I don't usually buy candy for myself, so I guess I'm out of touch on the average price.

sprezzy: Good point. With the short timeline, I guess I just didn't want to be a bother.

BDoyon: I didn't realize they had cheaper 6-packs. Thanks for the pointer.

Any drug store or supermarket will gladly sell you an unopened box of Snickers from their stock. You'll pay full-retail, of course, but it's an option.

Best answer: Do you have a Rite Aid near you? Check the last page of this week's circular -- Snickers are .59 each through Sunday and it doesn't look like there's a limit, so it would probably put you back 30 bucks with tax.
