My wife and I are heading to Puerto Rico for a few days, and plan to explore the island and see a couple baseball games. One is in Mayaguez, but it's only just occurred to me that means driving back to San Juan at probably a little before 10pm. We live in the middle of nowhere, so I'm used to hours-long drives home late after we do something in the city, but my only experience driving in PR is from San Juan to the rainforest, during the day. Are highway conditions OK for driving at night if I only have tourist Spanish and don't really know where I'm going? I'll have an iPhone, but should I spring for the GPS with the rental car?

Planning to spend a week around Christmas in Puerto Rico with my wife and two kids. Have been watching airfare from DC - has been pretty consistent at about $350 RT. Exact days are flexible, so flying in and out on Wednesday to take advantage of cheaper mid-week fares is fine. Do I pull the trigger and buy now, or do I have a reasonable chance to save significant dollars by waiting?

Mr Bellastella & I are going to visit Vieques this fall. We had a lovely experience in Culebra two years ago, stayed at a small guesthouse and loved it! Vieques looks like a place we will really enjoy, and we like the idea of a room or casita, or guesthouse. We're looking at Esperanza, but that's not written in ink yet. [more inside]

My soon-to-be-wife and I will be in San Juan, PR, this weekend, staying at El Convento. The photos on the web site seem to indicate it's not very laid-back in terms of dress, but hotel reviews I've read haven't mentioned anything about how dressy or casual the place is. Can anyone provide some firsthand knowledge? Bonus restaurant recommendations are welcome, too.

My girlfriend and I are going to Puerto Rico for nine nights ( 11/21 to 11/30 ). We are thinking of doing a drive around the island, stopping at three different towns for three nights. Does anyone have any suggestions about which towns to visit? Presumably the first one would be San Juan or somewhere near San Juan since that's where our plane lands. Other than that we are just looking for a pleasant vacation experience and the chance to get a feel for Puerto Rico. This is a pretty wide open question. If anyone has suggestions/recommendations/ideas for lodging/activities/meals, that would be welcome too. Our first priority though is getting our route planned out. Thank You!
