My husband and I are looking to book a trip to Puerto Rico, and it looks like the island has a lot of food that is either pork-based, or cooked in pork fat. While I see this as a delicious plus (They have a whole Pork Highway!), my husband cannot eat pork products without significant dietary upset. Will both of us enjoy this trip, or will we need to second-guess / inquire about the ingredients at most restaurants/food vendors? [more inside]

I’m about to book this hotel on the east coast of Puerto Rico: El Conquistador, A Waldorf Astoria Resort Anything I should know ahead of time? I’ll have my 70-year old parents and 5-year old daughter with me and we wanted to be close to the major attractions. The luxury hotels are crazy expensive, but I also wanted to stay somewhere really nice…hrm! Also, any recommendations on must-do excursions or even private tours (if I save money from not staying at the Ritz or Regis I can splurge elsewhere)!

Daydreaming about a visit to Puerto Rico in January (pandemic permitting, the fantasy is that travel is very safe in all ways,) to enjoy the tourist sites, warmth and some of the PR queens that have been on Drag Race or their drag children. An American friend just landed in Puerto Rico for vacation, alone, and realized they forgot a bottle of one of their prescription meds, Prozac (and have an extra bottle of another med, instead). They're in San Juan. They're asleep right now, so I'm doing some remote leg-work in hopes of handing them info when they wake up in the morning. Any advice/info I can pass along re: resolving this as quickly as possible and getting them the meds they need would be greatly appreciated! [more inside]

A: Are there any major concerns driving to Aguadilla from San Juan these days? How about El Junque? Is the ferry to Vieques functioning? B: Anybody know of anything useful I could be doing when I get there? I will definitely have to spend at least a little time doing touristy stuff, but would feel better if I could usefully do a day of work. I have some skills in both the trades and IT. [more inside]

I've read all of the MeFi threads about Puerto Rico and I'm trying to figure out if an excursion to Vieques makes sense for this trip. So many people have told us to visit Vieques (and MeFi seems to confirm this), but it seems a bit expensive to get there ($400 for two people is expensive for us for a flight). I'd also like to get some opinions on whether Vieques is worthwhile for a 2 or 3 night stay, as opposed to spending more time elsewhere in Puerto Rico and saving Vieques for another trip?
