I’m about to book this hotel on the east coast of Puerto Rico: El Conquistador, A Waldorf Astoria Resort Anything I should know ahead of time? I’ll have my 70-year old parents and 5-year old daughter with me and we wanted to be close to the major attractions. The luxury hotels are crazy expensive, but I also wanted to stay somewhere really nice…hrm! Also, any recommendations on must-do excursions or even private tours (if I save money from not staying at the Ritz or Regis I can splurge elsewhere)!

I'm finding myself unexpectedly in Puerto Rico in two weeks and would love to do an evening of fine dining. Eating inside is not within the risk tolerance of the group. Is there some place that has a fancy meal that can be eaten outside? [more inside]

Daydreaming about a visit to Puerto Rico in January (pandemic permitting, the fantasy is that travel is very safe in all ways,) to enjoy the tourist sites, warmth and some of the PR queens that have been on Drag Race or their drag children. I am interested in post covid PR travel advice and PR drag scene advice specifically.

An American friend just landed in Puerto Rico for vacation, alone, and realized they forgot a bottle of one of their prescription meds, Prozac (and have an extra bottle of another med, instead). They're in San Juan. They're asleep right now, so I'm doing some remote leg-work in hopes of handing them info when they wake up in the morning. Any advice/info I can pass along re: resolving this as quickly as possible and getting them the meds they need would be greatly appreciated! [more inside]

I’ll be spending a few days at La Concha resort in San Juan, PR and would like to eat amazing food that locals eat. The nearer to the resort, the better. Where should I go?

A: Are there any major concerns driving to Aguadilla from San Juan these days? How about El Junque? Is the ferry to Vieques functioning? B: Anybody know of anything useful I could be doing when I get there? I will definitely have to spend at least a little time doing touristy stuff, but would feel better if I could usefully do a day of work. I have some skills in both the trades and IT. [more inside]

My fiance & I are considering San Juan, PR for a honeymoon in August. We're wondering if the first week of August is a good time to go weather-wise. Also, what about hurricane damage? I understand it's not completely recovered, but is it safe or advisable to go? More below... [more inside]

My husband and I just booked flights for a 6-night vacation in Puerto Rico in early March. Now we need to figure out the rest of the logistics. We are flying in and out of San Juan so will likely look for hotels there, but it seems like there are a few distinct areas to choose from. Any recommendations? [more inside]

Mid-March my husband and I are going on our first real vacation - no kids, no sleeping on friends/relatives pullout couches, no driving 12 hours, no camping in a hay field watching music for days...We need some R&R that involves warm pools, nice beaches, and a cozy place to read a good book. I am going to an April wedding at the Marriott Courtyard in Carolina, Puerto Rico. I can stay at the hotel if that's the best option, but I did see some neat-looking Airbnbs that are in the walkable area of the hotel. How safe is this area of Puerto Rico? [more inside]

I've read all of the MeFi threads about Puerto Rico and I'm trying to figure out if an excursion to Vieques makes sense for this trip. So many people have told us to visit Vieques (and MeFi seems to confirm this), but it seems a bit expensive to get there ($400 for two people is expensive for us for a flight). I'd also like to get some opinions on whether Vieques is worthwhile for a 2 or 3 night stay, as opposed to spending more time elsewhere in Puerto Rico and saving Vieques for another trip? Going to San Juan as a quick 3-day getaway from the cold, Northeastern winter. We will be staying right on the beach in the Condado neighborhood in San Juan. Looking for some advice and tips on beaches accessible within San Juan, San Sebastian Festival, and seeing the rain forest. [more inside]

My wife and I are heading to Puerto Rico for a few days, and plan to explore the island and see a couple baseball games. One is in Mayaguez, but it's only just occurred to me that means driving back to San Juan at probably a little before 10pm. We live in the middle of nowhere, so I'm used to hours-long drives home late after we do something in the city, but my only experience driving in PR is from San Juan to the rainforest, during the day. Are highway conditions OK for driving at night if I only have tourist Spanish and don't really know where I'm going? I'll have an iPhone, but should I spring for the GPS with the rental car?

Planning to spend a week around Christmas in Puerto Rico with my wife and two kids. Have been watching airfare from DC - has been pretty consistent at about $350 RT. Exact days are flexible, so flying in and out on Wednesday to take advantage of cheaper mid-week fares is fine. Do I pull the trigger and buy now, or do I have a reasonable chance to save significant dollars by waiting?
