Food and relaxation recs for very short trip to Miami

I'll be in Miami from March 2-5 for a work event. I'll have Saturday and Sunday to myself before the event starts. I'm not of a mind to try and cram in a proper tourist overview of the city in such a short span. Instead, I'd like to slow down and relax. Seeking recs for nice places to do... nothing... to eat and enjoy a view. [more inside]

Need help planning a Gulf Coast Florida vacation

Looking for a recommendation for a location on the gulf coast of Florida from Clearwater south to Fort Myers for a January vacation. Two adults, one senior citizen, and two late-stage teenagers. Trying to find a location with a nice beach close by (senior citizen) and lots of things to do for the teenagers (both very active, love exploring new areas, shopping, thrift stores, probably near a mid size city best for them). Miami Beach for grownups?

I'm headed to Miami Beach at the end of February - likely prime spring break season. I'm in my late thirties, and I'm looking to relax with my partner, not party all night. We're staying close to where 195 hits the island and will not have a car. My taste can run a little bougie but I also love a good dive, and am a big fan of reading and coffee shops. What's chill, relaxing, and for grownups in Miami Beach? [more inside]

24 hours in Miami in the time of Omicron

I unexpectedly have 24 free hours in Miami on Monday. I'm boosted and have N95s but am still relatively risk averse when it comes to spending time in enclosed space with people who aren't wearing masks. What might be a good set of activities to consider? I will be by myself and not have a car. [more inside]

2 weeks in South Florida

I am going to be working/playing in South Florida in February and March. We (two colleagues and I) are staying in Fort Lauderdale for 2 weeks, and then I am planning to stay on alone for another two weeks (2/27-3/12 ish), considering Lauderdale By The Sea, Pompano Beach and Hollywood for options. Any recommendations for a location where it’s possible to live walkable to a good beach for less than $2000 per week? I am liking the large hotel-style condo buildings with lots of amenities but the resort fees are adding up. I am checking VRBO, Air Bnb but the choices are not great. I am hoping someone has an under the radar idea. I would consider renting somewhere with a shuttle to the beach or easy public transport as well. Thanks for any ideas! [more inside]

Gulf vacation on short notice?

We (couple, 40s, no kids) had a vacation planned in 10 days on the gulf coast of Florida near Tampa Bay. Between the Delta situation and the red tide we're thinking about cancelling our Florida hotel and moving north to... Alabama along the gulf? Any suggestions? [more inside]

Frequent Tallahassee Tourist recs

It looks like I will soon be visiting the Tallahassee area about once per month for work. As long as I have to pass through, I'd like to spend some time seeing some local sights, eating some good food, etc. I have seen the previous Tallahassee questions, but they are quite old at this point. I am hoping for some more recent recommendations of places to visit. [more inside]

Looking for a good old fashioned Fish Shack in Florida.

You know the type...been around for eleventy billion years....All the fish is caught fresh that day by some dude named Hank and cooked up right then for you. We are staying in Kissimmee and then meeting someone in Daytona (midway-is between our place and Jacksonville) and then traveling south along the coast. Anywhere in those locations would be swell. Have suggestions? [more inside]

Miami spots for the most quiet/peaceful solo swimming?

Miami area swimming beaches/shores that are 1) very peaceful isolated vibe, not party vibe and 2) walkable from some lodging that's not luxe priced? Especially in lowish-season winter, such as early or mid Jan? (I see Miami's lowest sea temps are around 70F, which is fine; I'm used to wild swimming down to 58F or so, and I welcome but don't need a lifeguard.)

A place in Florida to live in RV/Fifth Wheel for next few months?

I have a family member who can no longer afford their rent in South Florida. They will be moving into a Fifth-Wheel, towed by their truck. ANYWHERE in Florida near a coast is an option. Due to Covid-19, camping in state/national parks has been cancelled. This person has two large dogs. He is youngish (30-something), physically active and skilled at a variety of landscaping/logging/handyman/boarding/grooming horses type outdoor stuff. (I am including this because some people have open land with RV hookups they may trade for labor tasks on their property). Fifth wheel is about 28 feet if that matters.

Advice for Moving on a Shoestring Budget? (Possible: FL, NY)

Should a freelancer with little money move and start over in NYC, FL (or other places -- open to suggestions) or stay in Philly, possibly? I'd love to get firsthand advice from individuals in different places, as I've seen I've learned much more about Philly by living here and asking advice. I'm moving very soon and really have no clue about what neighborhoods are affordable and ideal around Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and other cities in other states. [more inside]
