Advice for Moving on a Shoestring Budget? (Possible: FL, NY)
Should a freelancer with little money move and start over in NYC, FL (or other places -- open to suggestions) or stay in Philly, possibly? I'd love to get firsthand advice from individuals in different places, as I've seen I've learned much more about Philly by living here and asking advice. I'm moving very soon and really have no clue about what neighborhoods are affordable and ideal around Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and other cities in other states. [more inside]

Maximize my chances for (watching) liftoff

Where's good for a quick solo vacation near Gainesville?
Looks like I may be going to Gainesville on business in October and I might be able to tack on a couple extra days of personal vacay. I like water in all forms and quiet. I can rent a car but don't really want to drive more than 90 min. Where should I go?

How safe is Orlando (North Mills Avenue and East Colonial Drive)?
I'm thinking about visiting Colonial Photo and Hobby in Orlando, which is at the intersection of North Mills Avenue and East Colonial Drive with my 16 year old step-daughter. As well as visiting the store we might go to the Starbucks a couple of blocks south of and maybe explore a bit - is this a terrible idea? Are there any areas in walking distance that we should particularly avoid? Bonus points for geeky or cool things to do/visit/see within walking distance of Colonial Photo and Hobby. TIA!

Orlando Adjacent Beach Recommendations
Mr. Wasp and I are flying into Orlando next month. We're planning to immediately get out of the city and enjoy several days relaxing near/on the beach; we also like the idea of staying in a low-key, unique location. Google/travel site searches feel overwhelming and inconclusive. We're planning to visit Kennedy Space Center one day, but other than that, have a wide open schedule. Thank you!

Time to kill in Miami, what to do for 5ish hours?
So I'm in Miami for a friend's party but things don't really kick off until 4pm or so. I've already landed and have a rental car. Anything worth checking out on a first rainy trip to the area? [more inside]

Unfried Sanibel Seafood?
My wife, a shrimp-loving celiac sufferer (say that three times fast) is taking a last-minute trip to Sanibel Island next month. She is a bit discouraged that the local restaurants seem to be all about the breading and seeks places that are serious about eliminating cross-contamination. [more inside]

Family-friendly hotel/resort in Miami
Our family (two parents, one nearly-2-year-old) wants to plan a relaxing week-long Miami vacation in late January or early February. We're looking for recommendations of low-key baby-friendly hotels or resorts to stay at, where we can have a decent trip just hanging near the hotel with our kid. [more inside]

Nightlife around Disney World?
I have to go Disney World with a bunch of families. I don’t have any interest. What bars are outside the Disney World complex that are reasonable to get to by Uber? Bonus if there’s a indie/cool whatever district in Orlando (I am sure there is!). There’s got to be a place the staff themselves unwind close by though. I’m open to other adult things to do besides bars, I just don’t like having to sit in a theme bar and order a Mickeytini or whatever.

Roughly 24 hours in Miami (or South Beach?) - Help me decide?
We will be taking a cruise that departs from the port of Miami in the spring, to celebrate a big wedding anniversary. The cruise line recommends two hotels, a Marriott in South Beach or the Four Seasons downtown, for pre/post cruise stays. We'll be flying in the day before the cruise (early morning) and will have roughly 24 hours in town before we board the ship. I see us having two paths - which would you recommend? [more inside]

Adult Fun In Downtown Orlando
Mrs Ashtray Elvis and myself have some time to spend in Downtown Orlando...by ourselves. We need a place to stay, cool paces to eat and stuff to do.
We have 48 hours, no car and would preferably like to walk where possible but are open to stuff further afield.
There seems to be some information out there but most centers around the theme parks.

Best way to do Universal Studios Orlando in one day?
We're going to Universal Studios in Orlando but only for one day. We have tickets for both parks, but are not planning to spring for the line-skipping passes (money is tight). It will be on a non-"seasonal" day, not expected to be peak attendance, so we're hoping that won't be too big a deal - 45 mins at worst? What is the best way to navigate both parks so we can get the most out of our day? We are two adults and a 9 year old boy, none of us likes big coasters. [more inside]
