What should I expect roaming around rural Italy?

We are in the early stages of planning a (possible) trip to Italy for our 25th anniversary later this year. Among other things, I would like to spend a couple days exploring the small town in Avellino where my great-grandfather was born. What should I expect? [more inside]

Where to stay / what not to miss in Rome?

I will be spending around four days in Rome in September before striking out to Puglia. I've never really had an abiding desire to go to Rome, but it makes sense for meeting up with travelers coming from the States and other logistical reasons. I have two main questions — where to stay and anything special to see — with details inside. [more inside]

Covid/corona virus: info on potential Euro border/airport closings

Partner and I are booked to travel next Thursday from L.A. to Rome via Madrid, and home from Rome via London on March 22. Do aviation-afilliated Mefites know how likely it is that Madrid / Rome / London will close its airports or borders to commercial flyers during this period, OR point me to a website I can access that discusses this?

Any recommendations for our trip to Florence/Tuscany/Umbria this May?

My husband and I will be traveling to Italy for our anniversary at the end of May. I would love to hear about your favorite restaurants, vineyards, hotels, tour guides or anything else you recommend in Florence or throughout Tuscany or Umbria. We’re starting in Florence, then renting a car a driving around Tuscany and/or Umbria for 5 days. Currently considering: Pienza, Greve, Chianti, but nothing is locked in yet. We’ve both traveled in a Italy before but it’s been a long time. What should be on our list? Thanks!

Beaches it Italy in late May?

Is it warm enough to spend time on the beach in Italy in late May? If so, which beaches would be the best bet for warmest weather at that time of year? Thanks!

Italian lost and found - how to return item from Florence to Rome?

I was in Florence this week and my bag was stolen - it only contained a sketchbook and something with my school program name. Someone messaged the school saying they found it and wanted to know if the group was still in Florence so it could be returned or picked up at a specific police station. I am in Rome now. Planes, trains, and automobiles in and around Rome (and Florence/Naples)

I'm going to Italy (based in Rome) for a week and a half in July and am ridiculously excited. For the first couple of days, I'll drive out to the countryside from the Rome airport to visit friends, and then spend six days in Rome with planned side trips to Naples/Pompeii and Florence during two of the days that I'm there. I'd be grateful for your recommendations, but I am specifically wondering about some practical details. [more inside]

What to do in Rome on Republic Day?

We will be in Rome, near Piazza de Popolo, on the Republic Day holiday (June 2). Will most things be closed? Is there anything special we should take advantage of? One of us is quite pregnant, so watching a parade in the sun is probably off the table.

What can't we miss on the route between Geneva and Venice?

My husband and I going to be doing a romantic roadtrip between Geneva and Venice this summer, taking a few days to stop at quirky sites or smaller towns as we go. (We'd take the train but don't want to be a slave to train schedules since we're short on time.) We normally just fly into big cities so this is our one chance to see Swiss/Northern Italian spots most easily-reachable by car! [more inside]

More on Rome—boutiques!

As per previous questions, my wife and I are going to Rome in a couple of weeks with our five year old. I’ve asked before about activities, but I’m curious what unique shops might be fun to visit. We’re planning to go to Al Sogno for a toy, but might be interested in housewares, textiles, silly hipster stuff, jewelry, gourmet items we can get through US customs, and alcohol. [more inside]

Cheap Getaway Within Italy

I found a cheap fare to Rome at Easter and booked an overlong 13 day trip. Even cheap AirBnbs add up (yikes)...and I'm too fussy for bunk beds in youth hostels. I'll mostly be in Rome/Naples. Where can I go via train for 4 days to save a few bucks where lodgings/eats are less expensive? Just want to chill and blend in (i.e. more digital nomadism than tourism). [more inside]

We will be traveling to Rome soon with our 5 year old. Thanks to the great answers on my prior AskMe, kid is now sufficiently hyped.
