Hyping up Rome to a 5 year old
We will almost certainly vacation in Rome this May. It is one of my wife’s and my favorite places. It will be my 5-year-old daughter’s first trip to Europe, which is exciting for her, but she doesn’t know much about Rome, compared to Paris or London. Can you recommend some age-appropriate media to introduce her to the Eternal City? [more inside]

which of the 4324737492 different Vatican tours is right for us?
A friend and I are spending a week in Rome, right near Vatican City. We want to see some cool, weird, old stuff, and we need specific advice on how best to do that in the Vatican. We're also interested in more general advice on where to go in Rome and Milan. [more inside]

Best 2 night side trips from Rome?
I'm taking my mom, who is Italian-Canadian and in her sixties, to Italy for 9 days as a birthday present. She has never been to Italy (or Europe for that matter). I've travelled around Europe a fair bit, but have somehow missed Italy, despite the heritage connection. We're flying in and out of Rome and, while we know we could spend 9 days there and never run out of things to see, we would still like to take a side trip and see a bit more of the country. But where to? [more inside]

Ride from Rome to fiumicino EARLY on a wednesday morning.
We check out of an AirBnb next wednesday in Rome, near the Colusseum. Because of an airline-induced flight change instead of being at the airport at 9am, we have to be at there at 6am. [more inside]

Rome. Traditional sports. Am I not entertained?
My wife and I will be spending a week in Rome in early May, and would like to attend a smallish-scale, local spectator sport.
We aren’t sports fans, but we do enjoy the experience of being amid a community of enthusiasts, cheering on something we only vaguely understand. Scale-wise, maybe on the order of a single-A baseball game? Examples of previous wins: a high school rodeo on Molokai, course camarguaise bullfighting and joute nautique in France.
So. Rome, May 2018… is there a regional tamburello championship? An obscure suburban palio? Intense bocce? [more inside]

When in Rome play like the Romans.
My friend is an experienced guitar (and piano) player who had a great experience once when he visited São Paulo. When he was there he found a professional piano player to give him a couple of private lessons in bossa nove. (He started on piano, and then brought his guitar to another lesson.) He learned a lot! Now he’s going to Rome with his guitar. [more inside]

When in Rome, stay where MeFites have stayed!
Travelling to Rome at the end of January and looking for accommodation recommendations. I'm looking for something that's away from the most touristic areas, but still within a 5-10 minute walk of public transportation.
Open to hotels, guest houses, or apartment rentals. I welcome your recommendations of places you've stayed in the last 2-3 years.

Help make our trip to Europe amazing, Rome edition
Our family will be spending a few days in Rome in July. We're traveling with kids, so our plan is for a mostly low-key trip filled with lazily exploring the city, relaxing in parks, and eating gelato. But we're also looking for other unique or special experiences we could do as a family that would really make our trip special. [more inside]

New and interesting in Rome and Venice?
My girlfriend and I are going to Italy in three weeks. We both love Rome, but neither of us has been in a while. I am a "foodie" (sigh) and am fluent in Italian, if rusty. Some things we're seeing: Palazzo Altemps, S. Luigi dei Francesi for the Caravaggios, Villa Borghese, MAXXI, the Quirinale. Is there anything new, or newly open, that we should be aware of? Any musical happenings in early May we shouldn't miss? [more inside]
