American accountant with no CPA looking for a job in Germany

I am planning to move to Germany with my fiancee, who is an EU citizen but not from Germany but she speaks German fluently. I am an accountant and I have around 8 years experience, but my title is still staff accountant, and I have no CPA. However, I do have a Masters in Accounting. I also do not currently speak German, but I have a strong interest to learn it since I like languages. I just want to know what the job market in Germany will be like for me with the credentials I listed above. Will I have a difficult time finding a job?

Last-Minute Trip to Germany

My partner is going to Germany for work, (Hamburg, Frankfurt) and I impulsively bought tickets to visit. They were an unbelievable deal. The low cost is offset by the fact that the tickets don't go exactly where I need to be. There will be trains and buses involved. I don't speak German. Having never been to Germany, how feasible is this? [more inside]

Heidelberg, Germany: camera store stocking Olympus camera batteries?

All my preparations for a trip to Heidelberg went so great except for one thing: I am an idiot and left my Olympus E-M1 Mark 1 camera batteries in and around the battery charger at home. Does anyone know of a shop in Heidelberg that carries Olympus camera gear and might have Olympus BLN-1 batteries? I have a portable charger, just none of the batteries. I arrive Sunday (tomorrow) and am staying in the city center.

Long Germany layovers: 6 hours in Frankfurt, overnight in Munich

Traveling with three teenagers (16, 14, 12) from US to Athens this weekend on Lufthansa and we have long layovers each way — 2pm to 8:30pm Tuesday in Frankfurt and 9pm Monday to 9am Tuesday in Munich. We’ve never been to Germany (and don’t speak German), but we hate to spend more time than necessary in the airport, or in the case of Munich, sleep away our time in a hotel. [more inside]

3 nights in Berlin

I will be visiting Berlin for the first time later this month. I will be there for three nights with a buddy, and we are both kinky people. We are not only kinky people, of course. We like food, we like ambling around, we like tea, libraries, and bookstores. In my case, also arboretums and cemeteries. Not usually so fond of museums, however. My budget is modest; I have lodging. What should I do? Where should I go? [more inside]

Where can I store my luggage in Berlin?

On Saturday I’ll fly from Berlin to Australia with a large suitcase - I need somewhere to store it between approx 9 am and 7pm. I can’t store it at my accommodation and don’t have any friends who can help in Berlin. Do you know of luggage lockers or a luggage storage service in Berlin? Should ideally be accessible by public transport or cheap taxi (from Reinickendorf) Thank you!!

An American with 24 unexpected hours in Munich

I was supposed to be stopping in Munich for a couple of hours on my way to Krakow, but the Munich airport was a disaster today and it turns out I can’t get on a flight to Krakow until 9pm tomorrow. Bummer! But maybe not, because I’m on a work trip, so my annoying expenses are covered. Snowflakes after the jump. [more inside]

Skip and a hop from Frankfurt

I'll be spending a week in Frankfurt, Germany, for work in mid-July. (Visiting from U.S.) I want to extend my trip 2-3 days into an interesting European city. What is an easy and somewhat unusual excursion from Frankfurt--my interests include museums, castles, music festivals (classical, jazz, rock), and nature--but I'll be traveling solo, so I prefer urban getaways over romantic ones. I have visited Europe a bunch, so major destinations like Paris, Berlin, Florence, or Barcelona already covered; but I don't have experience with European trains or cheap airfare like Ryan Air and am willing to explore. is there a good excursion close to Frankfurt? I can return home from any major city.
