I'm thinking about taking a trip to Vienna with my wife this autumn. Looking for recommendations for hotels mainly. I'd like to find somewhere that's got some of that traditional Viennese style and I'm happy to go upmarket if its worth it for how it looks and treats guests. [more inside]

We're planning a trip to Austria in August. We plan to stay around three days each in Vienna, Salzburg, and Innsbruck. We've found based on past trips that things work best if we get an early start to our day, do one big thing that interests everyone, take a coffee break, have a late lunch, then head back to the hotel for some downtime in the afternoon. My daughter and wife aren't huge on extended trips to museums or galleries. All of us enjoy concerts, although they're best if short for the kid. Adventure playgrounds, swimming, and climbing walls rate very highly. Light hiking is great; we'd though about taking a funicular up a mountain, then walking part way down. I'd be grateful for recommendations!

We would be tres sad to eat expensive frou frou food that is not also surprising and good. Or to stand in line at Disneyfied tourist attractions. Or to stay in town the whole time if there's something not to miss if you have a rental car. [more inside]

I'm in Vienna for a few more days, and want to ride the best parts of the Semmering railway, hop off the train, hike about 10km back towards Vienna along the Semmering railway hiking route, and then catch a train back to Vienna at a different station. [more inside]

Hi, my family is spending a long weekend in vienna visiting a friend, and wondering where to stay. We want to be central, within easy reach of my friend (grosse schiffgasse) and in a walkable area with some restaurants and playgrounds to keep our two year old fed and entertained, and so we can stay out when he is asleep in the stroller. i don't know the city at all. any suggestions? I need to move to Austria to take care of my Mum. I am planning on going June/July next year. I have 3 cats which I do not want to live without. Is there a specific agency I go through to get them over there? It is a permanent move. Also, can anyone suggest a good, not terribly expensive, overseas moving service? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.
