A skip-the-line tour with someone who can answer my many questions sounds attractive. If I book for only two persons, though, how many others will be with that same guide?

Assuming this is the one by "Good Vienna Tours," one review here mentions 2 groups of 10 and another, a group of 25. The response to the review saying the group of 25 was too big to handle says:

"the palace is one of the main attractions of Vienna, it is always crowded. In the period from March until September the Schonbrunn palace welcomes around 1000 people per hour, which makes it a bit harder for organization of the tours. Our tours usually have around 20 people, but this year there is a big demand for this tour. Therefore we always provide our guests with audio guides so you can get an informative and clear commentary throughout the tour."

That is all from pre-Covid times, plus is a summary for more the season - and definitely everything tourist-oriented in Vienna is noticeably less crowded in the off season (Oct-Feb, according to them, which roughly accords with my own experience though that is a few decades old now).

So I can't say to what extent it applies now when it is both Covid and off-season for tourists. However the Good Vienna Tours web site shows an email and a phone number, so you could ask them: +43 664 5544 315 - info@goodviennatours.eu
