What's a good day/half-day trip to the north-western Wienerwald?

I'm in Vienna for the week, the weather's great, and I've been to all the museums before, so I was thinking it was high time for a hike in the Vienna woods. Can anyone with first-hand experience of that area recommend a particular hike or day trip? I've done a little Googling but I'm looking to supplement it with up-to-date personal advice.

It'll probably be a family hike, with a small-ish child who can probably top out at about 7km of hiking given a couple good breaks. We're staying in Bezirk 16, near the Ottakringer brewery, so a trip into the Wienerwald north-west of Vienna seems best.

Best answer: Have a look at the Steinhofgründe
Map
The best thing about this huge park area is that no dogs are allowed. Which is a major bonus if you have a child with you. There are hiking paths, meadows, and playgrounds and patches of forest and big lovely meadow, right now the plums and the cherries blossom.
It is easy to get there from Ottakring, get off 46 A or 46 B at stop "Feuerwache". Or get off at the stop but don't enter the park and walk straight into the forest. Alternatively ride one stop further to the Hotel Wilhelminenberg, there are also vrious walks into the forest leading off opposite the stop by the hotel.

one thing I forgot to add: if you are at all worried about ticks/tick borne diseases, you need to know the area of the Wienerwald incl Steinhofgründe is full of ticks carrying FSME and / or borreliosis. The FSME vaccinations are done in a series and months in advance before taking effect, so you cannot do it now. And there is none for borreliosis.
I have just always dressed my son and myself sensibly (eg boots, and the long socks outside over long trousers, long sleeves) and I search us meticoulosly upon coming home but if you are nervous about this issue better avoid the Wienerwald, especially now at the start of tick season.

When you are done hiking Steinhofgründe, walk to Grosses Schutzhaus Rosental for some typical and authentic Austrian food.
