Thanks to overzealous use of Google Flights, I'm going to Vancouver next week. Which is great, but I'll be there over Thanksgiving. Will there be anything to do or anything open over the holiday? I especially need ideas that are inside in case of bad weather. (My current plans are 1. go to Vancouver Island overnight 2. eat ALL the sushi 3. whale watch 4.walk/bike around aimlessly)

I would like to take my girlfriend to Vancouver Island for the New Year. I'm looking for one or two great day hikes on the island that still be doable even if there is snowfall. I imagine a coastal hike is our best bet, and I'm looking for recommendations. Bonus points if you can see a mountain from the hike. Even a big hill.

I'm visiting Vancouver Island this week and next. I have a free weekend. I am from Australia and have never seen a bear. Apparently Vancouver Island is full of them, but presumably not in downtown Victoria. I've seen tours advertised to go look at grizzly bears, but they are at least 3 days long, over a thousand dollars in price, and I don't care whether I see a grizzly or a black bear: I just want me some bears of any of the varieties. What is the most convenient way to get from Vancouver International Airport to downton Seattle with an 8 year old in tow and plenty of luggage? We've have arranged a somewhat spur of the moment trip to B.C. at Christmas. The first leg will be Salt Spring Island, my mother is flying into Vancouver, we are are picking her up from there. Mostly, I think we will be staying at the place we have rented, which is 30 mins. out of Ganges in a more remote place, my mother is quite elderly, and will be content to look out at the ocean views and watch the deer while we cook Christmas meals.
