Victoria & Vancouver BC in May

I'm considering a ferry/train combo trip to Vancouver and Victoria in May. I am looking for some logistical and timing advice, especially from folks who live in or spend time in Vancouver or on Vancouver Island. Any suggestions for saving some money on lodging? Also, should I bring my bike? [more inside]

What are the "destination forms" that United Airlines wants for Canada?

I'm traveling from CA to BC in a couple of weeks on United Airlines. United's online system wants me to upload a scan of my passport. If possible, I'd like to avoid that because I'm sure their system will suffer a data breach at some point. But when I try to get past the prompts to upload my passport, it tells me "You can't get fully Travel Ready before you scan your passport". So … do I have a choice? [more inside]

October in British Columbia -

I'm going on a work trip to Victoria, BC in October. I want to take a ~week's holiday while I'm there, preferably on a group trip of some kind. However, it seems to be too late in the year for the summer activities and too early for the winter ones. I'd like to see some wildlife, scenary, and history. Help me find what I'm after! Can we see the aurora from the Vancouver area in November?

I have a conference trip planned for mid-November of this year in Vancouver, Canada. This will provide an opportunity to tack on a vacation with my spouse. If there's a chance of being able to see the northern lights from somewhere nearby, we'd like to give it a try. What are people's recommendations? [more inside]

Vancouver Island in December

What’s Vancouver Island like in December? Is it worth visiting? We were thinking about visiting the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino on Vancouver Island in later December. Storm watching and just kind of snuggling in for a few days sounds like a relaxing and chill way to end the year, but getting there sounds like a lot, and maybe too much of the opposite of the relaxing disconnect we were hoping for. Your Best Vancouver Travel Recommendations

I am planning a family vacation to Vancouver and I'm hoping to get some advice and recommendations. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 young adults from Pittsburgh and we are open to other options in case Vancouver doesn't fit the bill. We want to go somewhere new, but not too far away, and we like a mix of city and nature. We will be flying from Pittsburgh in August and we are looking for recommendations on alternate cities that might have less expensive airfare. [more inside]

Visiting Vancouver Island...in November!

So, it looks like Mrs. Gefilte and I will be heading to Vancouver in November for a conference. We'll be in the area for a week before the event and would like to visit Victoria and possibly Tofino as I've never been to either. Keeping in mind that the weather is likely going to be sub-optimal, what are some things worth doing? Are there other places on the island that would be better-suited for November weather?

Got all this free time in the summer, and we wanna see more of BC!!

Me + my dear husb want to spend some time road tripping in British Columbia this summer. We are life long residents of Vancouver Island/Lower Mainland, but haven't ventured much further beyond that save for a couple of trips to the Okanagan to visit family, or else just cruising through on the way to Alberta for whatever reason. Where should we go and what should we do?? [more inside]

Planning for a couple of weeks in East Vancouver, BC

I'll be solo in East Vancouver for a couple of weeks in the end of April. I'll be up for training, so I'll be at a site a few blocks west of Commercial Drive from ~9:30-4:30 each day. Where should I stay? Grocery shop for lunch-making? Eat & drink? Spend my one-at-a-time days off? [more inside]

Guided hikes on Vancouver Island

The wife and I would like to spend some time on Vancouver Island come summertime. We're experienced day-hikers and have done our share of camping-lite in Ontario (i.e. cabins/yurts with a grill and composting toilets) but would also like to get a little more experience with seeing more remote areas. Ravenna : Seattle :: ____ : Vancouver ?

What neighborhoods in Vancouver, BC are "most like" north Seattle neighborhoods (Ravenna, Queen Anne, Ballard, etc)? Talking about access to amenities, "feel", and cost. The north Seattle neighborhoods I mention have single family homes with small yards and townhomes, often within walking distance to at least a few good restaurants and a grocery store and parks/libraries, but only a 15 minute drive to downtown core where a lot of the offices and theater/museums are located.
