Recommend erotic media you like
August 6, 2020 12:47 AM

Inspired by a comment in a recent thread, I thought it'd be interesting to have people share erotic media, or links to platforms they like, forums, whatever.

In this recent thread, someone made this comment: "(I have a friend who'd be interested in specific content if anyone else feels like naming authors/websites)."

I thought this could be the thread for that, instead of buried in a two days old post.

Note: everyone please be respectful! If you think someone else's suggestion could use a content warning I think that's fair, but otherwise, I want to encourage people to post a diversity of recommendations. If you think some content crosses a line of course that's fair, I just don't want people to be kink-shamed.

I personally would be interested in: well-written stuff with good characterizations...but that also brings the steam (m/f, m/m, f/f, etc is all fair game); the aforementioned, but with a graphical component (comics, manga, visual novels, etc). But I encourage people to share!

As the "someone" who made that comment, thank you :D

Here are a few, many of which I learned about here (see previously links at the bottom).

* Erika Moen's Oh Joy Sex Toy is more of a sex toy review/sex ed site, but it also reviews erotic material, and features guest artists and links to their content.
* Alfie - fantasy - way smutty (via OJST)
* Oglaf - funny, silly, weird.
* Teahouse - Escapist brothel in fake country where all the patrons are cute
* Chester 5000 XYV and other works by Jess Fink - Victorian steampunk porn with robots
* Curvy
* Khaos Komix
* Erotica anthologies such as those edited by Susie Bright and Violet Blue

Seconding Anais Nin.

Previously, previouslier - more stuff, sexy and nonsexy

Hong Kong artist Little Thunder. Her insta is great, really open about ongoing work. I hunted for ages for LE collections of her works Peek, Sisterhood, and Wakame And Wave And Infinity (got em! spendy). I couldn't begin to describe it... subtly sexy and blatantly sexy at the same time. She's masterful at these images that provoke the observation: I don't know what just happened, but it was...awesome.

Archive of our Own has an excellent search & tagging system. You can get anything you want, as the song goes.

These are some of my favorite romance authors, with recommended books to start. While I don't remember offhand just how steamy each one is, the books I read tend to be closer to the "steamy"/"sexy" end of the spectrum than the "sweet"/"cozy" end.

Cinnamon Blade: Knife in Shining Armor by Shira Glassman
Every time Cinnamon Blade, crime fighter making up for a bad past, rescues the sweet and nerdy Soledad Castillo from bad guys, the two women's chemistry grows stronger. Now that she's finally asked Soledad out, sparks fly -- but is a normal date even possible in a city threatened by aliens and vampires on a regular basis?
Mrs. Martin’s Incomparable Adventure by Courtney Milan
Mrs. Bertrice Martin—a widow, some seventy-three years young—has kept her youthful-ish appearance with the most powerful of home remedies: daily doses of spite, regular baths in man-tears, and refusing to give so much as a single damn about her Terrible Nephew. Then proper, correct Miss Violetta Beauchamps, a sprightly young thing of nine and sixty, crashes into her life. The Terrible Nephew is living in her rooming house, and Violetta wants him gone. Mrs. Martin isn’t about to start giving damns, not even for someone as intriguing as Miss Violetta. But she hatches another plan—to make her nephew sorry, to make Miss Violetta smile, and to have the finest adventure of all time. If she makes Terrible Men angry and wins the hand of a lovely lady in the process? Those are just added bonuses. Author’s Note: Sometimes I write villains who are subtle and nuanced. This is not one of those times. The Terrible Nephew is terrible, and terrible things happen to him. Sometime villains really are bad and wrong, and sometimes, we want them to suffer a lot of consequences.
An Unseen Attraction by K.J. Charles (I love this book and the trilogy it's in so, so much, and K.J. Charles is one of my favorite authors)
A slow-burning romance and a chilling mystery bind two singular men in the suspenseful first book of a new Victorian series from K. J. Charles. Lodging-house keeper Clem Talleyfer prefers a quiet life. He’s happy with his hobbies, his work—and especially with his lodger Rowley Green, who becomes a friend over their long fireside evenings together. If only neat, precise, irresistible Mr. Green were interested in more than friendship... Rowley just wants to be left alone—at least until he meets Clem, with his odd, charming ways and his glorious eyes. Two quiet men, lodging in the same house, coming to an understanding... it could be perfect. Then the brutally murdered corpse of another lodger is dumped on their doorstep and their peaceful life is shattered. Now Clem and Rowley find themselves caught up in a mystery, threatened on all sides by violent men, with a deadly London fog closing in on them. If they’re to see their way through, the pair must learn to share their secrets—and their hearts.
It Takes Two to Tumble by Cat Sebastian
After an unconventional upbringing, Ben is perfectly content with the quiet, predictable life of a country vicar, free of strife or turmoil. When he's asked to look after an absent naval captain's three wild children, he reluctantly agrees, but instantly falls for the hellions. And when their stern but gloriously handsome father arrives, Ben is tempted in ways that make him doubt everything.
An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole
As the Civil War rages between the states, a courageous pair of spies plunge fearlessly into a maelstrom of ignorance, deceit, and danger, combining their unique skills to alter the course of history and break the chains of the past . . . Elle Burns is a former slave with a passion for justice and an eidetic memory. Trading in her life of freedom in Massachusetts, she returns to the indignity of slavery in the South—to spy for the Union Army. Malcolm McCall is a detective for Pinkerton's Secret Service. Subterfuge is his calling, but he’s facing his deadliest mission yet—risking his life to infiltrate a Rebel enclave in Virginia. Two undercover agents who share a common cause—and an undeniable attraction—Malcolm and Elle join forces when they discover a plot that could turn the tide of the war in the Confederacy's favor. Caught in a tightening web of wartime intrigue, and fighting a fiery and forbidden love, Malcolm and Elle must make their boldest move to preserve the Union at any cost—even if it means losing each other . . .
Sweet Disorder by Rose Lerner. From a review:
This was very interesting. A Regency set amid politics and the middle class, with a widow who finds herself in need of a husband, the grossly corrupt politics and vote buying of the time; a realistic attitude to how people had sex. The injured veteran is really, painfully injured; the heroine is actually fat, not the usual size 10 masquerading as fat, and the way the hero perceives her is wonderfully contrasted with the way other characters dismiss her. These are non-perfect people who are perfect for each other, which really is my crack.

Super Fun Sexy Times Vol. 1 by Meredith McClaren (also on ComiXology, a collection of one-shot comics, varied pairings and gender IDs)
Out of Focus by L.A. Witt (novel, m/m/m, BDSM)
Yes, Roya by C. Spike Trotman (graphic novel, m/f/m, dom/sub)
The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal by E.K.Weaver (m/m, webcomic, slow burn, also available as a graphic novel)

Alyssa Cole + Rose Lerner + Courtney Milan are all amazing, but I'd like to add Alisha Rai and Delphine Dryden to the list. Roslyn Sinclair is great for f/f, too.

The Wild Seasons Series by Christina Lauren is really great- it's got characters you can care about, an actual plot, lots of steam, and it's packed with diversity and consent and people who like and care about each other even while they have lots and lots of... steam.
