Scores That Sounds Like Brick?

Can you recommend movie scores that sound like the OST for Brick? Organic and evocative, particularly like the last 5-10 seconds of that trailer. Almost like music that's been made without using traditional musical instruments. Words like jangly or handmade come to mind. Thanks!

Check out Einsturzende Neubauten's Ende Neu. It's a lot less harsh than most of their other stuff, but still has the "we're playing this on stuff."

Thomas Newman's American Beauty score comes to mind.

Also, you might want to check out the awesome gamelan-heavy Akira soundtrack. Tetsuoooo!

It's more upbeat than Brick, but you might like Jon Brion's score for I Heart Huckabees.

Hanne Hukkelberg - Ease, just one of the awesome tracks from Little Things. A bit more upbeat (does have its dour moments) than what you might be lookin' for, but this is an awesome handmade, toy chest-aesthetic album.

hard to reconcile it with all of those gunshots in the movie preview, tho =_=

Peter Gabriel's score to The Last Temptation of Christ has an organic jangly feel to it.

I can't listen to the "Brick" sample at the moment, but the "Mulholland Drive" score sounds like it may fit the bill based on your description. I kind of remember recommending that score here before, there might have been a thread like this one. I'll see if I can find what I'm thinking of.

This is the question I was thinking of. The OP didn't specifically ask for soundtracks, but some of the answers are for soundtracks.

Thomas Newman's American Beauty score comes to mind.

Also, a few years earlier, his score for The Player.

Brick's music score was composed by Nathan Johnson, cousin to the director.

Nathan Johnson is part of the band called The Cinematic Underground.
They contributed some to the Brick soundtrack, as well as to the soundtrack for
The Brothers Bloom.
Their cd is called Annasthesia, which I've found to contain songs anywhere from "great!" to "okay-ish" to "skip it". Depends on how organic you like your music. Contains sounds from alarm clocks, dishwashers, normal instruments, and voice.
