80th birthday in the Grand Canyon-- Which way? April or May?

My dad turns 80 this year, and as a birthday present, we’re going on a 7-8 night trip in April or May to the Grand Canyon. I’m thinking that we will fly there, rent a car, and focus mostly on landscapes and cultural sites. We’ll definitely stay overnight in the Grand Canyon, see sites around Flagstaff, and see Petrified Forest. In this early stage, I'm asking, what general route should we take, and when should we go? What's good in or around Apache Junction, Arizona?

Two women in our early 60s will visit Apache Junction for a few days before Christmas. I lived there 25 years ago but haven't been back. We have a place to stay already. We plan to hit Goldfield Ghost Town and Boyce Canyon Arboretum. Is kayaking available in the area? Anything else we shouldn't miss? Anything special likely to be going on for the holidays? Trip from Grand Canyon to Santa Fe. What to see, where to stay, what do?

We will take this trip at a cooler time, between going into the Grand Canyon, then onto Santa Fe. We can meander, this does not need to be a straight line. We especially like small towns, pueblos that may be reopening, the amazing skies, forms and colors. We cannot do much actual hiking. There is of course Canyon de Chelly, the Navajo and Hopi nations, fans of Tony Hillerman, Chimayo, Abiquiu.

Won the Grand Canyon/Phantom Ranch Lottery & doesn't want to go!

My friend won the lottery for a year from now, but is terrified of heights, and is too scared of riding a mule or walking down the path. I have tried to show how amazing, unique and once-in-a-lifetime this will be, but the fear might win out. I have tried to explain how adept mules are, even showing videos, but to now avail yet. She has 2 days to confirm.

What to do in Phoenix

I'm visiting a friend who is undergoing medical treatment at St. Josephs Hospital in Phoenix. It's a short trip. I'm flying in Friday, we are catching a Diamondbacks game Sat. night and I'm leaving the next day. Looking for recommendations on what to do on Saturday that doesn't involve being outdoors in 100 degrees. Maybe a good art museum or other indoor cultural spot? I'm not unfamiliar with the area but it's been about 10 years since I last visited. Not interested in shooting ranges or ATVs.

Moving from NYC to Tucson -- best guidebook?

A friend will be moving from NYC to Tucson soon and I'd like to get him a nice going-away present. He's never been to Arizona before (neither have I for that matter) so I was thinking some kind of insider's guide or similar book. I'm looking for recommendations from Arizona MeFites!
