Toronto, Late Summer: Recs & Side Trips?

We have beloved cousins in Toronto that we visit all the time. We've asked for tips before. This time, we're going in late summer, probably the week at the end of July/beginning of August or the first full week of August. We're interested in fun recs for things to do and places to eat, and this time, we'll have the time to venture a bit outside of town if it's worth it. More inside. [more inside]

Toronto travel: walkable ethnic enclaves

Headed to Toronto in June. We are big walkers and would love suggestions for areas that showcase the city’s diversity. We will have a car and are staying in Toronto Metropolitan University student housing. Shopping centers or malls count too if they’ve got interesting stuff

Will the 10:30 Toronto-Kinsgston Via Train be on time for the eclipse?

Looking to take a train tomorrow from Toronto to Kingston to see the eclipse. The eclipse starts at 2:09, totality at 3:22. The train is scheduled to arrive at 12:49. Is there info on how often that train is delayed and by how long? Is there any reason to expect greater delays than usual tomorrow?

I need a break. Difficulty Level: 6 year old and Dog Highway-Phobic

I'm in Toronto. I really want to go away this weekend. I have a 6 year old and a dog. Where can we go? Oh, and I'm scared of driving on highways if we're anywhere near Toronto (like two lanes of divided highway with no traffic, fine...but traffic or trucks...no way, no how). My son's passport is expired. We do not have camping equipment here (we own some, but not a tent and it's stored at my friend's house and she's out of town). Is there somewhere my kid, my dog, and I could go? I can drive for maybe 2 hours. [more inside]

Toronto Tourism

I’ll be spending Veteran’s Day weekend in Toronto visiting my undergrad son — what’s fun touristy Toronto stuff? Is the CN Tower a reasonably entertaining experience, or are the lines and so on too long? This time of year, will the islands be worth going to? Assuming that we are willing to walk any distance imaginable, what would you do for fun in Toronto?

Visiting Toronto, this time in November

Me, my spouse, and our kiddo, all Chicagoland-based, will be spending the Thanksgiving break in Toronto visiting our favorite cousins and their bouncing preschooler. We will have some chances to peel off and do things solo and we may all go out together a few times as well. Difficulty level: we've been there four or five times already, so a lot of the classic Toronto tourist stuff is long-since checked off our list. Outside of our regular trip to St. Laurence Market, the goal is to see new stuff. [more inside]

I live in Toronto. I want to see the Northern Lights tonight. Cheap.

I understand there will be a magnetic storm tonight. I (and my elderly relatives and my 5 year old son) wish to see the northern lights. I understand they will be this far south tonight, but light pollution and...thunderstorms...is there anywhere I can drive within say 3 hours of Toronto check into a motel for one night and see the northern lights and drive home tomorrow? Recommendations for affordable places to stay in Toronto?

So I want to stay in Toronto from December 23rd to January 1st. The cheapest I've found is about $900 CAD. I can afford it but I would prefer to pay less. I really don't want to stay in Kingston (where I live) this Christmas. I did it last year and it was quite frankly depressing. [more inside]
