Safety organizations and activists?

Who are the current organizations and activists working on consumer safety or environmental safety? By “environmental safety” for this questions, I am mainly thinking of things like chemicals that causes diseases and such, not wildlife habitat, or even climate change, for instance. I am most interested in the USA, but open to information about elsewhere.

You can sign up with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and get updates on recalled products and meds.

There are many small Covid advocacy groups, like groups that buy air filters for schools. I consider this "environmental safety."

Best answer: PIRG has been on this for decades, activities will vary by state-level group.

For consumer advocacy maybe google around for the various campaigns that Elizabeth Warren speaks up with, she remains a leader in that space.

Earth Justice is good - they aren't limited to one area though.

Making a plug for the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) and they also have a nutrition newsletter, Nutrition Action, that regularly distributes food recall lists so you can have them handy.

This doesn't quite fit your brief but it is one of the few advocacy/lobbying organizations that are run for the benefit of people and not corporations. They are the Food and Health watchdog. I don't think they get the press they deserve.

As per CPSI:

The Center for Science in the Public Interest is your food and health watchdog.

Our vision: CSPI envisions a healthy population with reduced impact and burden of preventable diseases and an equitable food system that makes healthy, sustainable food accessible to all. CSPI values independence, scientific rigor, and transparency.

Founded in 1971, the Center for Science in the Public Interest is an independent, science-based consumer advocacy organization with an impressive record of accomplishments and a clear and ambitious agenda for improving the food system to support healthy eating.

One more organization that has been quietly working on plastics is Plastics Solutions Fund.
