OKCupid Answer Deletions
August 25, 2015 6:12 PM   Subscribe

I've been on OKCupid for a number of months (A-list, paid subscriber), and have answered a lot of questions, about 2,100 of them. Over the past few days, I've noticed that my answered-questions count has been steadily decreasing. What's this about?

It also seems that when I answer new questions, that they are questions I have answered already, back at the start. Is this OKCupid's way of keeping my answers fresh? Is it a memory capacity thing? Is it simply my stupid brain playing tricks on me?

Realistically, it probably means that Okcupid needs fresh data to train their machine learning algorithm.

Or maybe OKC is deleting questions (which deletes everyone's answers to each deleted question) which could be done for the purpose mentioned by deathpanels but could be for other reasons as well.

Best answer: A lot of OKCupid questions were incredibly repetitive, and some of them were both repetitive and poorly written, so they may be doing a clean-up of their question database.

They may be deleting and updating their questions. 80% or more of their questions wouldn't help anyone find a suitable match anyway so if they are it would be a good thing.

It also seems that when I answer new questions, that they are questions I have answered already, back at the start.

There could be multiple user-submitted questions that are very similar, and OKCupid is getting rid of the worse ones (e.g. questions filled with grammar or spelling errors).

I answered all the questions on OkCupid a few years ago, and the number of questions has been decreasing for a while.

And yes, some of the OkCupid questions are terrible.
