Me want porn

I’m looking for a specific type of porn/erotica. Not sure how to describe it, maybe “primitive” or “tribal”?

Basically sex scenes involving some mixture of ritual sex, elaborate preparation for sex, perhaps community participation, onlookers, etc. and/or societies in which lack of privacy during sex is the norm.

Some examples of the type of thing I’m talking about:

-The mating ritual scene in Valley of Horses with Ayla and Jondalar.

-The scene in the Red Tent where the main character is ritually deflowered by female relatives.

-The scene in Dances with Wolves where the Native American couple make love in their tent while the main character can see them.

-A scene from the romance novel Adora, in which the young princess is meticulously groomed and then ritually deflowered by servants before her husband the king joins her in bed.

I’m interested in mainstream books or movies that have scenes like this, as well as erotic books or stories and hard or soft-core porn with this theme. What can you recommend me?

There's a group sex scene in The Diamond Age that might fall along these ritualistic lines.

"Brave New World" has some scenes of this, but doesn't get into too much detail alas.

The scene in the first season of Game of Thrones when the Dothraki servant girls get Khaleesi ready for sex with Khal Drogo? They bathe her and brush her hair and put oils on her skin.

The phrase 'aliens made them do it', if necessary with the addition of the word 'stargate'. Also, unrelated, A Companion to Wolves by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear, for ... ritual orgy(?) with bonus telepathic wolves? It's not bestiality or werewolves, it's just a step or two (ok, possibly quite big steps) more detailed than McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern.

The initial coupling of Daenerys and Drogo in GOT might suit. All of the sex that takes place in Kushiel's Legacy at the Houses of the Night Court is ritualistic, though you're going to be reading a lot of books for not a lot of sex. They're good books though!

Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy.

The Gor books by John Norman. Set on a 10th planet in our solar system. Filled with slavery and public sex. Possibly not ritual sex. I read the early books a long time ago. I have been told the later books are ...nastier -- hostile and disrespectful -- in terms of their attitude towards women.

I also want to say there is some Philip Jose Farmer book with a scene that would fit the bill but I cannot identify a familar title.

Gary Jennings's Aztec and Aztec Autumn have a LOT of this, if I recall correctly.

The book and miniseries of Mists of Avalon (an Arthurian retelling from the female characters' POV) has such a scene early on as part of a Druid ceremony.

Eyes Wide Shut comes to mind.

I think there's sex with onlookers in R A MacAvoy's The Book of Kells - but not ritualised.

Quest for Fire has some of this, particularly lack of taboo and lack of concern for onlookers, and there's the breeding scene which I think is almost exactly what you're after. There are several more scenes, all of them brief but in general getting the point across. (I've only seen the movie, not read the book.)

Oh, maybe the Handmaid's Tale? The sex is highly ceremonial (and while interesting, I'm not sure it's erotic.)

Pretty much any cannibal movie, though you'll also have a lot animal snuff and gore in those.

Oh, there is also "The Story of O" which is considered a classic.

Vikings has a few scenes where couples have sex when there are other people around, including a notable one where the main Viking couple has sex in the same room as their English slave and then invite him to join them for a threesome. There's also a drug-fueled orgy scene later in the season.

The red woman in GoT has a few ritual sex scenes.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand has several as well.

Public Disgrace and The Upper Floor (kink.com) are very good (look for uploads by user "merzedes" on thepiratebay) for audience participation. Now as far as "tribal" that's tough.

You want Behind The Green Door, a classic 1972 adult feature film.

I don't know where exactly to point you on tumblr, but I'm sure you'll find your way once you get there.

Response by poster: Nice list! Plenty of variety. I'm not going to mark best answers as I don't know yet what is going to fit the bill, but a lot of things mentioned look promising. Thanks!

the ritualised sex part is only one of the aspects of the alien culture meets earthlings in Ninth Orb by Kaitlyn O Connor & Nocole Ash, and while there's a lot of disbelief you have to suspend, I found the conceit fascinating.

seconding Kushiel's Legacy trilogy above, beautiful writing as well.

It isn't porn (and probably not even erotica but I can't remember how detailed the sex scenes are) but The World Inside by Robert Silverberg meets the "no privacy" aspect. Humans have decided to embrace overpopulation and huge skyscraper apartments have been constructed to house everyone. Relationships are open and men go out at night to sleep with different women. It's considered immoral to say no to whomever comes to your bed. And due to space constraints, there is zero privacy (I envisioned the aforementioned Dances With Wolves).

Rome, the tv-series, not the city, has some of this.

You should watch Caligula. I learned everything I know about sex from that movie. :-D
