I need to kill someone in Bennington Vermont....

....for a mystery story I'm writing. Is there a mountain or escarpment that someone could "accidentally" fall off. The victim is fairly well off, so I'm picturing a big house near some dangerous plunges.

What's Burlington like for a visit? How about to move to?

We (spouse, 8-mo-old beeb, and I) are visiting Burlington, VT for a long weekend, Nov 8-11. We're staying pretty central, I think-- near the waterfront right by the Church Street marketplace. What should we check out for fun while we're there (details below the fold)? More importantly but less immediately, what should we see and do to evaluate it for permanently relocating to next year? NEWHART FOR DUMMIES

Next weekend, I'm visiting Vermont for the first time ever. I'll be flying into Manchester, NH, on Thursday, renting a car, and driving around solo for four days. My itinerary is open ended -- I just want to get a feel for the state, hopefully catch the leaves before they go brown, visit some small towns, and stuff myself with tasty food. The rough plan right now is to drive up to Montpelier and use that as a base to explore. Vermonters and those who know the lay of the land, do you have any tips for me? Any small towns I should visit or festivals I should be aware of? I happen to be a gay dude, so if there are any awesome gay bars, I'd love to know about them too. [more inside]

Help me to be serenaded by loons, please!

For my rapidly approaching 50th birthday I would like to hang out by a lake and listen to some loons. Any suggestions for towns in NH or Vermont where I might accomplish this? Bonus points for recommendations of comfortable and relatively inexpensive lodging. Super duper bonus points for knowledge of handicapped accessible parks or trails in the vicinity. Thank you!

Vermont getaway accessible by train (and no car), and maybe camping?

Hi all From NYC, I'd like a weekend getaway to VT, where I can take an Amtrak to the station and walk around a small town, enjoy a B&B, and so on. If there were camping accessible from said train, that would be the best! Id be happy to rent a car in VT and return on train if necessary, too.
