I'm planning to visit Baltimore in August...maybe. How safe is the area around the Art Gallery, the American Visionary Art Museum, the George Peabody Library? Also planning to visit the Baltimore improv theatre. And while talking about it, what are the cool sights in the city?

My five-year-old daughter and I have ten weeks of summer break stretching out ahead of us. I stay home with her, and much of the break will be spent at swim lessons or running in sprinklers while eating popsicles. However, I'd like to organize a couple of Mother-Daughter overnight trips to break up the routine. Berkeley Springs was a big hit when we went before. We like outdoorsy, but not super challenging, waffles, donuts, lots of downtime, and cool playgrounds. Museums and cultural type destinations would be too much stress - my kid wants to touch EVERYTHING. Any suggestions?

Looking to meet up with some friends for a relaxing long weekend in mid March. Will be traveling with 6 adults and 2 children under 2, and looking for spots within an easy drive from both Philly and DC. Looking for a destination where we could rent a comfortable 4 bedroom house and have options for some shopping/restaurants/outdoor activities. Would consider a beach destination (NJ/DE/MD) if the town has stuff going on in the off-season. My spouse needs a beach vacation. Any suggestions for a low-key, relatively crowd-free, gay-friendly beach destinations? We are in Atlanta, so driving to the Atlantic or the Gulf is Option #1, but we are also willing to take a plane if we can find the right place. Likewise, we're good with a variety of accommodations - hotel, resort, vacation rental, B&B. In general, we like history-culture-art, so that's a plus. And great local restaurants would also be nice.

I'm traveling to Baltimore for a wedding in late April. Hoping to catch a little art and culture in Charm City, possible overnight side trip to Eastern Shore or St. Mary's City, followed by 3 nights on a friend's futon in Manhattan. At a conference in March, I'll be organizing a group of public history colleagues for a dinner conversation. I'd really like skip the hotel restaurants and chains take them to Baltimore's Little Italy neighborhood, but I don't know much about the area.
