Things to do near BWI today

My flight from BWI to SFO was delayed 24 hrs due to mechanical difficulties. I am near BWI and looking for stuff to do today.

I am currently at a hotel. Checkout is 2:30 and my flight (LORD WILLING) isn't til 8 pm.

I spent much too long at the airport yesterday and was hoping for something else to do today - I don't have a car and I do have heavy bags. Any ideas?

Ask the hotel if you can leave your bags. Take the Amtrak train to Union Station in D.C. and then hop on the subway to one of the Smithsonian museums. (MARC trains aren't running today, which is stupid. If you don't want to deal with the subway, I don't think it would be an expensive cab ride.) All the Smithsonian museums are open today as usual, and they're free. My mom recommends that you go to American Art, but there are a bunch of other ones. Here's a list. The only one that you can't go to is the African-American museum, because you need tickets for that one, and there aren't any available today.

Train into Baltimore, cab to Inner Harbor. Not sure what's open, but walking around the harbor is fun. The National Aquarium's seal habitat is outside, and Therefore free.

There just isn't much near BWI. Tripadvisor has a page! Don't know what's open today though. The new Guinness brewery is a huge complex with tours and stuff if you're into that. And if you go to Medeival Times, post pics! :)

Too late for you, but for future reference the best kept secret near BWI is the National Electronics Museum https://www.nationalelectronicsmuseum.org

Some of the very best advice I have ever received on Metafilter is when in Baltimore, do not miss the American Visionary Art Museum.
