Meeting and eating spot maybe near Hartford, CT?

Where should my brother and I eat lunch and hang out? We live a little farther apart than ideal for a day trip. Hartford, CT is about halfway, so it could be a good area to meet, though we’re open to somewhere else too. We’d like somewhere to eat lunch outside, and something else to do. [more inside]

New Haven with a five year old on Thanksgiving

We're visiting grownup friends in New Haven, Connecticut, for Thanksgiving (Wednesday to Friday). Our five year old will be the only young kid around and will need some outings. Can you help us brainstorm things to do in New Haven on and around Thanksgiving that might be fun for adults and one five year old?

Plan my East Coast long weekend

I will be in Simsbury, CT in late July for a wedding. My boyfriend and I want to add on a few extra days but we both have zero familiarity with the area and no constraints other than the wedding itself. We're open to staying in CT or going somewhere else via train or rental car. All this is making it hard hard to even start planning when I don't know what I'm looking for. Any suggestions or recommendations? Specifics inside. [more inside]

Headed to New Haven for...pizza. What else?

Staying overnight in New Haven tomorrow, coming from NYC. Primary reason for visit is to try their pizza, after having New Haven pizza in another city I want to go to the source. I'm not sure what COVID restrictions are like there, but what would be some fun things to do? It looks like a nice town to explore on foot, and I won't have a car but will be staying in the center of the city in a hotel. I like to walk around and explore architecture, take photos, etc. Would also love it if there's an amazing local coffee shop to check out. For pizza (no cheese), I've been told that Frank Pepe's is the spot. So just anything interesting in general that a solo traveler can fill a day with. Thanks!

Summer weekday parking at New Haven train station

I've taken the Metro North to NYC from New Haven plenty of times on weekends, but the few times I've done it on weekdays the parking garage and attached lot were full and I've had to park farther than I'd like. Now it's summer and some commuters are probably on vacation... Do I have a much better shot at getting parking right at the station on a weekday morning? If it still typically fills, around what time does that tend to happen?

Stuff to do in/near New Haven?

Hey, y'all! I've gotten a short-notice approval to go to a professional conference in New Haven, Connecticut. The conference ends on a Friday afternoon, and I'd like to take the next couple days to poke around in the area before returning home. Any recommendations as to what a solo female should do over a weekend in that neck of the woods? Thanks!

Help me hack a Darien Lake vacation (for next summer) !

We are planning a Friday afternoon - Monday morning trip next July to Darien lake. Please help me maximize our experience. We have never been, and the website is a bit thin on useful content. We are leaning towards renting one of the trailers, vs. one of the cabins, as the pricing seems more reasonable. Which should we choose? Please share your wisdom! Suggestions for a Connecticut town to stay in for one night?

Hi! I'm trying to choose a town to stay in, possibly not all that far from Hartford. I'd like it to be non-urban, non-strip mall, and not a wasteland like near an airport or industrial area. Beyond that, I don't have too many specifications… [more inside]

Bicycle riding around New Haven, CT

I'm going to be in New Haven, CT for the first time ever for a few days without a car soon. I would really like to line up at least two relatively easy bicycle rides that will end up at the seacoast during my short visit. Can you point me in the right direction? Bonus points if you can help me borrow or rent a bike. [more inside]

CT to NYC on Metro-North: Where to park?

I'll soon have to travel semi-frequently from Hartford to NYC for work stuff, at both peak and off-peak times. I'm guessing the best option is to park-and-ride at some station along the Metro North line, but where should I park? This AskMe said Bridgeport Station is the best option, but that was almost six years ago - has anything changed? Would a station in New York state proper be better - Port Chester, etc? I'll also have to travel pretty late some nights in case that makes a difference.
