I'll be meeting relatives soon to spend 4 days exploring the civil rights history of Montgomery, Alabama, including the new National Memorial for Peace and Justice honoring U.S. lynching victims. We're aware of most of the obvious museums and sites we can find at sites like this, but want to know if any locals can provide personal recommendations for other interesting things to see. I'll be spending a few days on the Gulf Coast in lower Alabama in mid-October for a family reunion. Looks like we'll be staying in one of the delightfully cheesy resort condos in either Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. Going to Gulf Shores, Alabama, the week after Labor Day weekend. We'll have a car. The beach is fun, but we are both fair-skinned sun wimps and will need interesting hikes/historical things to amuse us when it's time for shade. What should we see and do? What should we skip?
