Recommend a Paddington, London Area Hotel

In September, I’ll be meeting a friend in London, where we’ll share a room for three nights before heading to his home on the south coast. It’s not that we’ll be hanging out in the room except to sleep, but I want it to be nice and am thinking I will be able to get that by spending something in the area of £250-300 per night. A few snowflakes within. [more inside]

London neighborhoods

I need help choosing a London neighborhood to stay in. One of my tripmates is a first time world traveler so I want things to be perfect! The ideal neighborhood would be: charming/beautiful/quintessentially London, with lots of informal/unpretentious but good food options, close to a reasonably accessible tube station (some steps are fine but not an excessive amount). And ideally, an easy no-transfer tube ride away from a fun neighborhood where the rock music lover can escape a few nights after everyone else goes to bed (I was thinking Brixton but am open to suggestions). This IS a Scottish castle and we have MANY AirBnBs

Let's all just continue doing Scotland travel advice! We are visiting the country in October: spending a few days in Edinburgh, then riding a fancy train, then upon disembarking would like to stay out in a cottage or castle for a couple days to decompress. We do not want to rent a car so we are looking for lovely locations within an hour or two train/bus/ferry ride from Edinburgh. [more inside]

Where to eat dinner today in London with kids near the London Eye?

We are going to the London Eye this afternoon for a treat and want to eat really well afterward in a place with great atmosphere that actually has availability-- with 2 kids. It is a treat so fancy is OK if kid-friendly. Walking distance would be great but can also take bus or Tube. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Royal Scotsman train advice

My partner and I are planning to head to Scotland for our honeymoon at some point and we love the idea of riding the Royal Scotsman. I'm curious if anyone has anything to share or advise on this, be it which tour to take, timing, or setting expectations. To be clear at the outset we know it is expensive! [more inside]

Jane Austen tourism recommendations?

I'll be in London first week of Sept. and can easily get to Bath. Looking for any good Jane Austen tourism recommendations. Walking tours? I'm not only interested in factual experiences, but if there are places she may have often been that are relatively unchanged where I can go and breathe in the atmosphere, that would be lovely too. Thank you!

Help with Airbnb dispute

I stayed with my partner at an Airbnb last week on vacation. On the day we left the host messaged me claiming someone on their property had seen an "unauthorised third person" leaving on the day we checked out, and is now attempting to charge us an extra fee for this person via Airbnb's dispute service. There was no third person, but I can't prove that. Looking for advice on how to proceed. [more inside]

Things to do in Matlock and the Peak District

I'm staying in Matlock for a few days in mid-February. I don't know the area at all. We want to do some walking and are otherwise interested in museums, history and art stuff. Any recommendations for things to do and see would be great, plus interesting shops (we have bookshops covered) or cafes and restaurants. I've seen the website for Cromford Mills and we are very likely to do that. Thanks.
