My spouse and I will be staying mostly in the Athens area, but definitely looking for a few days to explore. It's likely we will have a rental car for a few days. Looking for a specific kinds of Athens souvenir, which may or may not exist: ones based on "urban" icons like their taxi signs, and other infrastructure-y things like that. Most definitely not looking for keychains containing photos of the Parthenon or other such tat, they are already being thrown at me with abandon, thanks. [more inside]

I am staying in Ampelokipi and am spending most of my days in Kolonaki. I am not Greek and do not speak Greek. Is there a department store or something around here where I could buy a cheap pair of exercise shorts? I tried the Carrefour in Ampelokipi and wasn't able to find any. [more inside]

Mom is in Istanbul now, flying to Athens on Saturday for 5 days. She's heard about civil unrest/protests in Athens recently. The news reports I've found (which aren't many) describe a 24-hour general strike yesterday, with shutdown of public transportation, flights, and other services. She knows to steer clear of any protests, don't talk politics, etc, but what else should she know? [more inside]
