What to do in Pittsburgh, early riser edition

I will be in Pittsburgh for a long weekend. I am an early riser and love exploring new cities before most people are up. Atlas Obscura suggests Homewood Cemetery early enough to see it in the fog, which is PERFECT for me. Anything else fun to do in the morning before my traveling partners are up? I usually just grab coffee and walk around but I would love to hear from locals if there are other good destinations to add to my list. Staying downtown, no car, happy to hop on transit or use bikeshare.

sleep masks of the lotion or gel kind

I'm going to be on a long-haul flight in the near future, and plane air always leaves my lizard-skin feeling super-dry/like my pores are so big you could drive cars into them. I'd like to be like the cool kids and wear a sleep pack or mask. Suggestions? [more inside]

DC, but like FAST

My parents have taken each of the grandchildren for a special trip to Washington, D.C. the summer between kindergarten and 1st grade with exciting things like hotel pools and room service and an itinerary of the special kid's choosing. My daughter's trip has been very delayed for (unimportant) Grown Up Reasons, but it's finally her turn in August and she's been waiting a whole year and she's so excited! Now what? [more inside]

Praising the helpful gate agent: good idea or the worst idea?

On a recent trip by plane, my first leg was delayed and as a result, when I got to the gate for my (transatlantic) second leg, the boarding door had already closed, about two minutes prior to my arrival. The gate agent told me there was nothing they could do, the flight was already listed as "departed", even though the plane was still parked at the end of the jetway. I put on a very, very sad face and the gate agent took pity on me, talked to the crew on the plane, and let me on. Should I write the airline to praise this employee, or could that get her in trouble? [more inside]

Are restaurants and grocery stores in Montréal only written in French?

I would like to visit Montréal, Québec this coming fall with my friend, and we do not speak or understand written French. I am wondering if most restaurants and grocery stores (ingredients) are mostly written in French and not English? I also have a food allergy to eggs, and my friend is a vegan as well. We are not sure if it would be difficult, since we only speak English. Thanks in advance.

Please help my friends love Spokane!

Dear friends and their adorable pup are moving to Spokane (he's already there, she's been out for visits and is following soon). They've been living in a great Midwestern college town, are disappointed in the farmers market (so far) and haven't yet found a bakery with amazing bread. The new house will be near Manito Park. They're bright progressive vegetarians in their early fifties who love great food and wine. Please recommend anything in the area that will help make their new life wonderful. Day and weekend trip suggestions, too. Thank you!
