I wanna make something new!

I want to learn to create my own flash video game, where to begin?
Yeah, a recent AskMe post reminded me of an old habit of mine: Making a point of learning to do something new and creative each year. I used to do it back when I was in school, and I had long summer expanses with nothing to do. But since graduating summers just blend into the rest of the year I haven't gotten around to continuing the tradition.
Well I currently have a huge amount of free time, so I think it's due I started back up. And my goal is to learn to make a rudimentary flash game, just to prove to myself I can do it.
I'm pretty decent with a computer, but I have no real programming background (well, I used to play Asheron's Call and I taught myself to program fairly complex interactive jscript macros by reading other people's scripts, but nothing in a real programming language) but I'm confident with a good starting resource (book, website, whatever) that begins with the assumption that I know next to nothing I'll be able to put the time and effort into learning.
I know via Google there are tons of web resources out there for this sort of thing, but the fact that there are so many sites out there only increases my feeling that I need a knowledgeable MeFite to point me in the direction of whichever would be the right fit for me.
Thanks much!

Since you don't mention it, can we assume you already have a copy of Flash?

And if Flash gets a little complicated, you might want to try Game Maker.
