Anybody know where I can get free vector art of nice-looking chess pieces?

Adobe Illustrator or Postscript (EPS) format preferred.

Check http://deviantart.com/

Search for 'vector chess' brought quite a few results. You can also try searching within the vector category. As far as them being free, just ask the artist for permission.

Do you mean 3d pieces, or 2d like you'd see on screen?

You could look for the various GPL/FOSS chess client software. They often have the same license extended to their graphic elements .... might be a start?

Well, if you're using Illustrator, you could always use a chess font and convert it to outlines. There's a great set of free chess fonts here, several of which have full pieces instead of just icons.

I primarily answered this question because I wanted to comment on your brilliant title.

You rock.

Response by poster: Thanks for the tips, everyone. To answer devbrain's question, I'm looking for 2d pieces, or symbols really, to make chess position diagrams.

Brilliant title. One of the best I've ever seen on MeFi.
