Help me find this magazine article. Sometime in the last couple of years there was a critical review of contemporary female jazz singers in which some of the more successful singers (e.g., Diana Krall I think) were unfavorably compared to lesser known singers. Article might have been in the New Yorker or the Atlantic, but I'm not sure.

Best answer: Is it this Atlantic article? If so, I subscribe - I can send you the whole thing.

I guess the pertinent part is hidden - it's on second page, says "Good singers are coming along today, too—they're just not the ones you hear the most about. Dianne Reeves has been around for years..." then goes on to mention Rebecca Kilgore, Luqman Hamza, Susie Arioli, Rebecca Kilgore and Daryl Sherman.
