Missing file attachments in Mac Mail

I sometimes receive an email on my Mac (OS Monterrey 12.1) running Mail 15.0 that says there is an attachment, but no attachment is visible, either in the preview pane or if I click File>Open Message. However, if I begin to forward the message, I can see the attachment.

In the Preview pane File>Save Attachments is grayed out, but if I open the email I can save the attachment, even though it isn't visible in the email.

I receive ermail at my domain name account, not Gmail, Yahoo, etc. If I log in to the webmail interface, the attachment is visible, so there must be something going on with Mail on my Mac. Another data point is that the attachment is visible in Mail on my iPhone.

I have no idea what caused this, but wonder if rebuilding the mailbox may help. I have found it useful for odd problems like this in the past.

In Mail, select the mailbox that is giving you trouble and select Rebuild from the Mailbox menu.
