Treat windows 10 laptop like a surface pro

Could a Windows 10 laptop be set up in such a way even if it means installing a new OS what allows the company to view it as a Surface Pro and proceed to onboard the device as one?

So my company issues laptop to every employee and does not allow BYO devices for work, which is fine.

However, employees have the option to onboard the following devices: iPhones, iPads, Android phones, MS Surface Pro.

I want to use my trusty Lenovo X1 yoga but because it is not company issued (excuses from IT was that it relates to SOE, and asset not being under lease) I cannot use it, so it's been unused for over a year just gaining dust. I want to use it to access company apps, and i don't care if company needs to install standard image and get full control over it. I want to use my X1 because it has all the features i want (built-in LTE, touchscreen, tablet mode, etc) which the company issued laptop does not have.

A part of me is thinking this is ridiculous, i shouldn't have to purchase a Surface Pro... so the question is - Could the X1 be set up in such a way what allows the company to view it as a Surface Pro and proceed to onboard the device as one?

Best answer: Probably not. That info is down at the firmware level, and not well suited to patching. I won't say it's impossible, but if you can do it, it may use the sort of software you don't want on a work computer.
