Looking for the band Upsurt

Looking for a copy of a CD by the Bulgarian music group "Upsurt". I am totally hooked on this song and I'm having trouble finding any releases by them for sale online. I'll pay purchase price and shipping+ if anyone can help me locate a copy. Also, bonus points if you can suggest any other great Eastern European pop/rap.

Can't help you with "Upsurt," but now I really want to hear more of it. I can recommend the Romanian group "Animal X." In particular I like the song Iubirea mea (link is to liner notes for a swapset). Drop me an email if you want a song or two to try.

Another suggestion, but not exactly pop/rap: I highly recommend Balkanarama. They do a variety of songs in Romany, Bulgarian, and Macedonian that are often based in folk stories or music but have modern arrangements or instruments included (another swapset link.

Response by poster: Thanks for the tips, I do like Balkanarama, it is more on the folksy side. I really like the Eastern Euro voices and the language in song. I like the Bulgarian Women's Choir as well.

I'm a little out of touch, but I always liked Vama Veche, a Romanian band that's a little bit country, a little bit rock n' roll. And for hardcore Balkan rap, nothing beats the B.U.G mafia.

Best answer: I don't know the language, but this seems to be a place to buy the CD you are looking for.

Response by poster: Thanks tomierna! It looks like I had the wrong spelling too, that might help find it elsewhere. I'm not too sure that I want to ship my credit card number to Bulgaria, might be time to try a one time use number.

Jonah, for the record, I have ordered from bulgariancds.com with absolutely no issues before. It took the CDs something like five damn weeks to get here (Boston), but there was no fraud or any indication that they used my info improperly. And they carry amazing, amazing music.

...and now I've actually clicked on your link, and I appologize for linking a site in which you may well have no interest! The site I linked above sells alot of folk/trad stuff, which is really really great, but not cued by the op.

Response by poster: Thanks mykescipark - any other suggestions from the site? Their CDs are only about $14 shipped anywhere., seems like a good deal.

Jonah - Well, my tastes definitely run towards the more traditional "Radio Bulgaria" end of things and not so much with the more contemporary pop-knockoff stuff they have, but if you're interested in some otherworldly sounds, I recommend the Eva Quartet, Zig Zag Trio, and Spassov/Iliev. Reminds me, I have a bunch of items bookmarked over there that I haven't picked up yet...
