How can I achieve this glowing pumpkin effect in Photoshop?

I really like the idea that I've seen on a number of t-shirts like this one, and want to create on myself using my own jack-o-lantern face. Does anyone know of a tutorial or action, or could even walk me thru the steps to create this effect with any shape?

It's white-to-golden-orange circular gradient centered about where the nose is. You need two layers. The gradient will be the bottom layer. The top layer is black; the shapes of the mouth, eyes and nose are clear (so the gradient underneath shows through.) Fiddle with the colors and the positioning of the gradient till it looks right.

(I use the GIMP, not Photoshop, so I can't give you an exact walk-though, but this is pretty basic; looking up "gradient" and "transparency" in help should tell you how to do it.)
