I believe he means removing the tags from the seam, as opposed to just cutting them off with scissors.
You could try and find blanks that don't have tags--there are a few producers (Hanes undershirts come to mind) that don't have tags but have a small printed on the inside of the shirt.

We have bought shirts from OmniSource and it was a good experience. Our shirts were regular but I know they do jumbo printing. We used their DonorGifts.com segement (being that I work for a blood bank) which shows some nice looking jumbo prints.
