Los Angeles eye exam

Where to get an inexpensive eye exam in Los Angeles? Preferably in the Hollywood/Silver Lake-ish area or red line accessible, but if it's totally worth it to drive to some place in Pasadena or something, then we will.

We both lack eyecare insurance and are in need of eye exams. The plan is to then use the info to order new glasses for cheap online.

Best answer: I think you need the $50 membership (which can be used by a whole household), but I have (well, had) great vision insurance, and it was still cheaper for me to pay out of pocket and get both my glasses and contact lenses and the eye test at Costco. I think it cost about $60, but there were different prices for different needs. I was really happy with the care as well, their optometrist knew her stuff as well as anyone I've been to anywhere else. The Costco I go to is the one on Los Feliz Blvd a few blocks north east of the 5 and the Bigfoot Lounge!

LensCrafters is less than $100, if I remember right, and I've never had a shoddy eye exam there. Just make sure they give you your pupillary distance measurement so you can order glasses. Ignore any moping from the sales reps about this.

The guy I go to in Culver City on Washington Pl. and Centinela is $39. I typically get a prescription from him and get glasses from Zenni. There's gotta be someone like that closer to you. Hye Optic sounds promising.

I vote for Costco, as well. I get back-up pairs at Zenni, but my Rx is tricky, and I trust the Costco ones more.

Yeah- seriously, Costco for the win. I used the one in Los Feliz before I moved away and was totally satisfied.
