To save money or sanity at the airport?

Leaving the car in airport parking for a week, is it worth it (security-wise and hassle-free-wise) to park in long-term rather than the economy lot?

The cost is not that much of a deal-breaker, as it is just $2 extra a day. The economy parking lot is a healthy distance away & separated by busy highway roads from the terminal (as to be expected). The long-term lot is within the loop of airport roadway and thus walkable; so I'm curious if we would be better off to park in the long-term lot.

The airport official stance is both locations are patrolled at regular intervals and so neither is "more secure" than the other. Also, as our plane leaves early morning, I'm looking for the least problematic way to park...i.e. waiting on a shuttle to the terminal is not really my idea of a fine time, whereas getting the chance for one last leg-stretch/toddler wiggle-time seems to be a really good idea.

Have any of you an opinion either way? This is for the Nashville International Airport.

I think that's your answer. For me, not having to wait for a shuttle and being having some toddler wiggle time would be well worth an extra $2 per day.

Usually when I am making my travel arrangements I Google "AIRPORT_NAME arirport parking coupon" and see what I find and if it sways my opinion either way. Looks like there's a coupon for just-barely off site airport parking for $6.50 which would probably sway me to park there and treat myself to a foofy coffee drink once I got to the airport. However, it really sounds like you're leaning towards the long term lot and I'd say that if it would give you peace of mind for a few extra bucks, I'd do that.

I did that at LAX and the SF Valley Flyway bus lot with no problems.

My toddler puked on my wife riding the shuttle from the Dulles economy lot to the terminal. We would have paid $2 a day to avoid that.

Response by poster: Thanks for giving me justification to avoid the economy lot. I think if it were just me, I'd be done with looking for a coupon and take the off-site airport parking, but the toddling toddler makes the long-term lot much more appealing.
