(Fancy) Dress Me!

Fancy dress/costume ideas please!
I'm going to a festival next month with the fancy dress theme 'Come as you were'. The blurb from the flyer says: "Come as the figure from history who you were in a past life. We're talking Caesar, Cleopatra, Genghis Khan, Marilyn Monroe, Jim Morrison, Marie Curie, Freddy Mercury and yes, Michael 'Wacko Jacko' Jackson (let's face it his career died years ago) ...get the picture?"
I'm a girl, I have medium-dark brown hair and wear pretty heavy black framed glasses (see my profile pic), and will also be camping overnight at the festival, so nothing too skimpy! I have a pretty vast wardrobe too so should be able to improvise a lot.
Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Best answer: What about someone famous from the 20's, like Coco Chanel or Louise Brooks? Claudette Colbert would be good, too.

If you need to keep your glasses on, put some white stuff (like snow-in-a-can or silver hairspray) in your hair and go as Benjamin Franklin.

Well, off the top of my head cause you could also combine with crunchy outdoor festival wear anf glasses but Janis Joplin?

A pint of Southern Comfort is as good as a name-tag.

Best answer: When it comes to these things, I hate to dress up as someone specific. If I were you, I'd find a period dress from the era you like and just dress in that - then spend the weekend having fun while everyone tries to guess "who" you are. (with our glasses - i have similar - I like to go for the librarian/ school marm look)

If you don't mind "cross-dressing" a little (i.e. you aren't set on wearing a poofy skirt)... Buddy Holly could be great (in fact, now I'm kinda inspired for Halloween)! I know your frames aren't right, but a mustache + a suit + a rolled up paper towel cigar = Groucho Marx.
And, for what it's worth, here's Marilyn in glasses.

Response by poster: Thanks for all the fab suggestions, Coco Chanel appeals the most so far, I can wrap up warm in (faux) furs too.

Coco was a collaborationist, so I'd nix that idea, if I knew you.
How about Lois Lane?
