Family Halloween costume ideas needed (two moms and a baby edition)

My wife and I have an adorable 4 month old and want to dress our little family up in a group costume but we’re coming up blank. I’m chubby and femme, my wife is pretty androgynous and would definitely dye her short hair any rainbow colour for the right costume; our baby is a generic cute baby. [more inside]

Seeking skin-safe double-sided silicone tape

Silicone can be produced in a way that makes it sticky without leaving a residue. You see this in silicone nipple covers (possibly NSFW example), and also in double-sided nano tape. I believe silicone scar tape is similar. I'm looking for a product that is double-sided like the nano tape but skin safe, like the nipple covers and scar tape. Anyone have any suggestions? Need to look like Wonder Woman, but not costumey

I'm planning festivities for my love interest's birthday. He is a huge Wonder Woman nerd (all the comics, tv show, movie--everything). I'm trying to put together an outfit that is definitely Wonder Woman-inspired but isn't a costume. It should have sex appeal but still be suitable for a night of nice dinner, watching roller derby, and hanging at a craft cocktail speakeasy. More details await! [more inside]

Plain white (or undyed) family pajamas... do they exist?

My wife is trying to make costumes for Halloween and wants to find some cheap family pajama sets to embellish. The problem is there doesn't seem to be anywhere that sells simple cotton pajamas without patterns or frills. At best we have found heavy (and pricey) fleece pajamas and plain long johns (which are too thin and underwear-ish). Does something like this exist?

How did Seinfeld dress?

I grew up watching Seinfeld, but didn't really have a personal conception of style while the show was airing. I watch reruns, and I think that the costuming is sort of... "dorky 90s department store". However, I'm curious, when Seinfeld was contemporary, how fashionable would those clothes have been? What was being conveyed with the clothing choices of the main characters?

Avant-garde costuming. Animals preferred.

I am interested in animal costumes, but searches either come up with mascots and fursuits (which are far too literal) or things like The Lion King (which foreground the human too much). Can you point to anything less conventional? [more inside]

Wardrobe remix: the movie

This morning I was thinking about how in the movie Housesitter, Goldie Hawn's character wears a very limited number of pieces of clothing combined in a variety of different ways. My mom pointed this out to me at a very impressionable age, and noted how this was much more realistic than infinite wardrobes. I'm wondering what other other movies have an obviously finite wardrobe for a lead female character?

How do I make fake braces for my teeth?

I am dressing up as Ugly Betty for a friend's birthday party. I have everything sorted except how to create some fake braces for my teeth. I don't want to cause any damage to my teeth or gums, nor do I want to be impeded from drinking (it is a party after all!). The only option I have been able to find so far involves paper clips and dental wax and appears to be somewhat painful looking. Any other ideas for how to make fake braces for a night?

Medieval scholarly costume on the cheap.

Halloween is coming, which means it's costume time. This year I've decided to go with a medieval theme, so that I can also have something to wear to the Renfaire which comes around in November. I have a vague idea that I'd like to dress as some kind of wandering scholar or scribe (it would allow me to wear glasses and is a nod to my academic real-life persona) but I don't really have a lot of ideas for how to make that awesome (or even really recognizable). I would like to keep the costume more on the realistic/historical side of the costume continuum than the funny/cheesy side, as much as is reasonable. I also am pretty broke, so I want to keep the Buying of Things to a bare minimum. I am happy to scrounge and to craft -- my main handicap there is that I do not have access to a sewing machine, nor do I even know how to use one, but I am otherwise pretty resourceful. How can I build a good costume around this?
