Bliss!

MusicFilter: tell me of the finest blissed-out dub.

Specifically, I'm looking for tracks like the quieter half of Salmonella Dub's Inside the Dubplates, especially tracks like Tui Dub, Push On Thru, Loop 7 or Tiki Taane's Tainui Waka. Or from Waldeck, Floater (Dubblestandart Remix) (Night Garden Reflowered).

Vocals are OK, faster/cheerful is OK (like For the Love of It or Problems), but most important is an awesome and detailed bassline and none of that annoying dissonance or crazy triplet-percussion that makes most of modern dubstep sound disorganised and/or angry. Assume I already know of all the classic dub artists (King Tubby, Lee Scratch Perry, Scientist, etc).

I have been waiting for this question. _Bass Player_, by Rhombus. If I could die listening to one album, it would be that one, in particular the second half.

Seefeel's Polyfusia is the one for me.

International Observer

(haven't head the latest album "Felt" yet, but "Seen" and "Heard" are brilliant)

I wouldn't call it blissed out dub, but 2562 manages to make music that is categorized as dubstep, only without sounding angry, disorganized, frantic, anxious, etc etc. I wound almost call it ambient dubstep, but what do I know..

The artist is Burial.
The songs I'd check out first are Raver and Dog Shelter.

Jah Wobble's Solaris
Bill Laswell and Jah Wobble - Radio Axiom
Alpha and Omega - pretty much anything
Planet Dub compilation album (especially the first disc) is also a good starting point

It's kind of earlier, but based on some of the links in this post, Kruder & Dorfmeister - the K&D Sessions might work.

I often use Niney the Observer, Augustus Pablo, and The Congos for purposes of blissing out.

Boozoo Bajou's first record 'Satta' certainly qualifies

The Orb's 'Blue Room'

Vladislav Delay - Anima is pretty blissed out, and last I checked you could download his entire catalog for free from the website

An often overlooked Jamaican dub classic is Heroes of Reggae in Dub (Played by the Skatalites, mixed by King Tubby, recorded at the Black Ark. Total triple threat).

On the dubstep tip, I quite liked Flying Lotus' latest record 'Los Angeles'; oh, and DJ Pinch's 'Underwater Dancehall' from last year was pretty good.

More as I think of them...

Do like like dub techno at all? If you haven't heard any, you might want to check some out. The percussion is a lot simpler than dubstep, and it's warmer and friendlier. The general vibe is very chilled, and I'd definitely put it in the category of blissed out, although in a more electronic way than an old school analogue/organic vibe. It can be quite light on basslines though, focusing more on the ghostly dub atmospheres.

Some examples picked at random, see what you think:
Deepchord presents Echospace - one of the bigger names
Soultek - Detroit techo / dub techno fusion stuff
A mix of tracks - on the techno-y side, so big on atmosphere, not so much on bassline

African Head Charge - Visions of a Psychedelic Africa
Dub Syndicate (a bit more 'electronic' sounding, but still good)

Also, the Trojan label have put out a number of boxed sets including, Dub Rarities and Trojan Dub 1 (and 2, I think) - all good places to find artists you like. The On-U SOund SYstem also have a variety of mix albums that help to find artists too.

Response by poster: Thanks for all the suggestions; I have some searching and previewing to do now... I'll mark best answers if I find something I really like :)

Rhombus looks pretty good for a start. I have a lot of International Observer, Boozoo Bajou, Alpha and Omega and Twilight Circus already, though IMHO it's not half as good as the Salmonella Dub. K&D Sessions is one of my favourite albums, so good call there.

Not a fan of Burial, sorry.
