Cat Costumes for Dogs

For Halloween, I want to make a cat costume for a larger dog.
It's that simple, really. Cat costume for a dog. I'm here because I don't know anything about costume making or dog dressing and it's the kind of thing you can't google. And if the dog in question won't wear the costume I won't plead to him with "...but Dingo, it's so cool!"

Response by poster: He's large, as in he can beat me up if I put whiskers on his nose.

Maybe a Cat in the Hat costume would be easier?

Do you have an old dog costume that fits your dog? If so, see if you can imagine what could be changed to make it a cat costume. (Like, change the fabric and make the batman hood into a cat face, or something.) Then, what I would do is to take lots of pictures of the old costume, and label all of the pieces of the costume with a marker and take a picture of that. Then, get a seam ripper and rip out all of the seams, taking pictures of how everything goes together. Now you have a pattern. Figure out how much material you'll need. If you get felt, you won't have to worry about it raveling, but it might pill. Use the pattern to cut out and sew the new fabric together in the way that the old one is sewn together.
You can even copy the old costume in white and then paint the cat bits on. Or paint the old costume.
I have never made a dog costume, but I've made numerous costumes my for kids by using old t-shirts or dresses to make patterns or putting karate uniforms, etc. on the fabric and cutting around them.

The big thing for getting to read as a "cat" will be pointy, upright ears.

You have a dog named Dingo and you're not going to have a costume that involves him eating a baby?
I couldn't find anyone on Etsy that specifically makes a cat halloween costume for a dog, but it's really easy to request custom work if you see someone who sells something close to what you want.
