I'm thinking of a song...

Hopefully this won't be too obscure... There was a pretty popular Japanese rock band that had a song which was basically a rocked out heavy metal version of Dies Irae from Verdi's requiem. I think the CD is from the early 90's or so. What's the name of the band? (and no, it's not from the Battle Royale soundtrack. That was a purely orchestral version)

Response by poster: Oh, and there were no lyrics. It was an instrumental piece.

I was unable to find the track, but I did a search for Japanese rock from the 90s in WorldCat. The results look pretty ugly, but maybe you can find the artist(s) (listed under Authors, Primary) or album title and go from there.

Loudness? Only fairly-big 80s metal band from Japan that I know.

There's a J-rock band called Dark Moor that apparently did a metal version of Dies Irae. But it has lyrics.

Take a listen to this and see if it's at all close...

Apologies, that is the Battle Royale version.

This is probably way off, but Japanese black metal band Sigh did a track that used 30 secs of Dies Irae as an intro.

Oh, also, that sounds like the kind of stunt Seikima II would try. Wasn't them was it? Otherwise the most popular early 90s metal band from japan was X-Japan, and I don't think they did a cover of Dies Irae (I am not 100% sure but I do have their entire discog in various forms and I hope I would remember)

Response by poster: I'll have to check out all the guesses so far. I'm trying to remember the entire song...I think if you listen to this...if I remember correctly, at around the 30 second mark, the song starts becoming heavy-metal-ish.

i listened to "that", and i think it is actually from the start of a dragon ash album? just a hunch
