Best type of physician for medically-supervised weight training/fat loss?

What kind of specialist physician would best be able to advise on a training regime - nutrition, exercise, the whole kit and kaboodle - for serious body sculpting and/or weight loss? Sports medicine? Any other medical specialties? Any recommendations for such a person in New York?

Contact Maria Tassoni, tassonima at aoldotcom. Not a physician but has a Master's in exercise physiology and works with clients having these needs.

There are many personal trainers that also specialize in nutrition. They may not have formal education in the subject but many of them certainly have a gamut of knowledge gleaned from years of experience and their own social circles. (And if you happen to find one who is a formally educated nutritionist, even better!) You may just need to call around and inquire. I am not in the NY area but even here in my city, I know of at least two that I'm merely associated with, and I didn't even try to look. Just remember to use common sense if anyone advises you on a nutritional regimen. Don't forget about your body's basic needs on top of all of the protein shakes and fish/chicken (veggies, fruit, important!). I eat everything I 'need' along with the weight gain elements of my diet and still see results. I hope you find what you are looking for, good luck!
