How to hide open app icons from the dock on Mac

I'm wondering if there's any way to hide the icons for open Mac apps from the dock (and ideally have them appear in the menu bar instead). A program called GhostTile purports to do this, but when I run it, it tells me it doesn't support hiding the specific apps I want to hide. Have you any better luck with any other methods? Thanks!

OS 13.1 has a set of settings under System Settings > Desktop and Dock that allow you to manipulate the dock history (so to speak). One of the settings is "Show indicators for open applications" which will hide the indicators. Article here.

You might also be able to write a shortcut that will hide the open apps.
