Modern music for coastal slackers

My summer playlist is stuck in 2012. Give me your favorite twangy and jizjazzy guitar-centric surf-adjacent jams that are up-to-date, maybe west/best coast but maybe not.

My current playlist: Wavves, The Growlers, Violent Soho, Surf Punks, FIDLAR, Surfer Blood, Title Fight, Ty Segall, Shannon and the Clams, Sticky Fingers, Mac DeMarco, Drunk Mums, The Arcs, The Orwells, even some White Stripes and Cramps and Dick Dale.

Should be appropriate music for riding your beach cruiser to a bar to drink with a longshoreman who hates you and your music, then his pet seagull bites you, then you bite the seagull, then the three of you become best friends. We're not hitchhiking any more -- we're riding.

Dehd has a twangy summer vibe, try Loner. The new Kurt Vile record, Flying (like a fast train). Could try Slift, too. They're more proggy and spacey, but also propulsive, I feel like they'd work well in a summer driving situation: Ummon.

Wet Leg! Chaise Longue / Wet Dream / Ur Mum / Oh No. The album just dropped earlier this month, so fresh, though some of the songs have been floating around for a while.

Clown Sounds new record Born Under a Bad Sigh: https://recessrecords.bandcamp.com/album/born-under-a-bad-sigh

Also will recommend a Clown Sounds affiliated band Nos Da: https://recessrecords.bandcamp.com/album/s-t-2 A couple songs on here are very great. More punky but I'm just gonna recommend.

What you need to know is that the music of Tommy Guerrero, especially Perpetual, is awesome.

When some friends and I went on a Golden Week road trip to Naoshima a couple years ago, Bombino was the perfect soundtrack.

Maybe Khruangbin? Here's their Tiny Desk Concert.

A couple Austrailian psych outfits may fit the bill. I feel like they've taken up the torch of guitar-psych in the last decade; Dope Lemon, Allah Las, Babe Rainbow.

Maybe some Moon duo or Wooden Shjips?

Bombino is good pull; there's a lot of amazing Zamrock out there that I gravitate towards in the spring and summer. Amanaz is a good starting point. WITCH is another good zone.

Atmospheric stuff like Khruangbin and Budos band find heavy rotation for long evening bike rides around here.

+1 Khruangbin, and "modern music for coastal slackers" is now the genre I'll be applying to it, because that's great.

Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys are twangy, great guitar, good songwriting. Not surf music but you'll find stuff to like I think.
